1991 SE 5 spd Tranny/ABS problems...

Ever since it has gotten cold my Max's transmission line has been acting up. Firt thing that happened is that, when in reverse, my tranny slips like the clutch is going bad.. and makes some odd/unorthodox noises. While traveling in any other gear the tranny does not slip at all. Because of that i have somewhat elimitaed the clutch from being the problem.

A few days later i find myself struggling to keep the stick in 1st gear. It keeps popping out unless i slip the clutch really slow... and then it sometimes STILL pops out of first.

Anyone familiar with these problems and what might be necessary to fix/repair?

Also an unrelated note: My Anti-Lock/ABS light comes on for no reason. Im not even braking when it comes on. Is this just a sensor or what?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Tranny: Odd. Might want to bleed the clutch line and see what happens. But as far as it popping out of gear, that might be a spring detent problem or maybe a worn gear?

ABS. Run the abs diagnostics as shown in the stickies. Might just be a dirty sensor. Worst case, one of your sensors is bad. Probably the same deal as the Z32

When my tranny wouldn't stay in 1st gear and reverse started acting up, my input shaft bearing (I think that's what it was called?) was shot. Matt rebuilt his and has pics on his site somewhere. You'll need an FSM for this repair. I just replaced my entire trans - will re-build the shot one later.

I think this might be un related but I had an old 86 sentra hatch that I usta drive the **** out of, turns out it would not get reverse somtimes or any even gears 2-4-R but somtimes it would, then other times 1-3-5 would not work, turns out some engine mounts had fallen off and transmision link cable would sit funny and was not able to push gear all the way. never fixed it just kept driving the **** out the car till engine blew . fun as hell to drive a car when you dont care what happened to it.

Just check if link cable/rod is still sits properly. proly trany though. I dought you treat you max that way.

Cost me a clutch, tranny fluid, and a machined flywheel cause I already had a spare trans from my other car and I did all the work myself.
