Cruise problems yet

Are there any fuses or fuse links in the cruise system on a '89 Max ? I have changed the cruise control center under the dash but no help. From what I can tell the switches on the wheel are OK. Help

How about the actuator under the hood and its vacuum [pump]?

yes, check my page for the fuse descriptions

a lot of cruise control problems are caused by either a clutch or brake switch being out of alignment. Then the cruise will think one of these pedals might be engaged. There is separate switch on the brake pedal so even if your brake lights aren't always on, it still could be the problem
the switches have an adjusting nut that will let you move it in or out

Mine had a bad actuator or something in that assembly. Rather than mess with the exact problem, I bought the whole assembly from a junkyard for I think $30 and swapped it in. Problem solved.

There are no wheel sensors other than abs sensors. So if you don't have abs, there are no wheel sensors. Not that the cruise control uses the abs sensors anyway.

I was hoping this was the problem. Hadn't thought about the switch on the brake pedal which shuts the cruise off when pedal is applied. BUT, the switch appears to be working fine. (checked with a meter while activating the brake) Thanks for the hint anyway.

Another wear point on the CC is the vacuum line that runs from the pump to the diaphram that pulls the cable, the vacuum line is very short like 3" or something. Inspect it for cracks. I know mine is pretty brittle, but I left it alone. I use my CC like every day, and I'd die without it .
