What A Bad Christmas!!!!

these past couple of days my max has went through hell.it all starts on christmas eve.last night i leave from a chicks house after i let the car warm up to temp, and the tranny decided it didnt want to shift out of first gear. i pulled over to put it in park and then put it back in gear and it did it for a good 10 mins of driving so eventually I pull to a gas station and cut the car off to check the fluid. all was well so i started her back up and guess what. she drove like like a charm again. so im relieved and it hasnt did it again all day. im hoping it was just something froze or something or a gear bushing or something retarded, but it scared the s*** out of me. ill tell you what happened to me on today(christmas day) down below.

I got scared when my door didn't pop. But I beat on the door a little bit then it popped.

my car has had a rattle sound like something was loose on the pass. front wheel for about a good 2 months. i took it to a shop to see what the sound was and the guy said he couldnt find it and the car was fine. it made the sound anytime you went over a bump or something. well today my mom and I are in the car. and the wheel where the sound was starts to bounce and wobble and felt like the wheel was about to come apart then drive fine all over again every couple of miles. so i thought maybe loose wheel lugs. i checked them and they were fine so we got back on the road. it does it again, but the rattle sound no longer exist so i get out again. i look in the coil spring area and realize the whole strut shaft has dissappeared. where it went i dont know. the only thing supporting that side of the car was the spring itself. no strut. that was scary.at least now i know what was rattling.so basically the car will not be mobile until monday when i can get it to a shop. what should the typical labor be for strut replacement. ill buy the strut, i just need a guess on a one strut replacement. and also was there a specific reason why the strut broke like that besides being the original one from 1992. What a bad holiday, but it could have been worse. and yes the 20's haven't been on since last week, and the rattle was there before they were on the car. Thanks. and merry christmas.

aren't you supposed to check the tranny fluid while it's running?

My transmission did the same thing as yours, but mine wouldn't shift out of second. It would start in 2nd, and it would stay in 2nd. It was weird, cuz I drove it to work, then about 2-3 hours later I took it to my friends dad to see if my tranny warranty covered this, he said it might be the tranny govenor(?). But yeah, when I was driving it to his shop it was fine, and it hasn't done it to me in the past month.

Be easy on Wiking. If you had to translate everything you wrote, it may sound strange the first read too. It usually makes sense when you spend a couple secs to understand it.

Hmm. Thaks for Grace. Not easy life on this free zing crack-ing boat... cannot even watch telly, only howling storm day in day out.

Luckily my maxima is HOT!

Mitäpä mikä poika missä? Skulle man förstå altt?

Oh, well. Cultural differences are so vast, that there's no fear to under stand each other properly... And maybe my wirings are somewhat loose under my tinhat, but so what? Who is the perfect one to be the measuring stick?

And on purpose, I do add enigmas in the texts. Typos make the undechipherable... lol. USA is so huge that on different parts there are different words used. Then, how about globally in nations speaking other languages? There is a barrier, surely. Please try to grasp. And, the 'words game joking' is much more prevalent in EU countries where typical citizens can speak 2-4languages, and see the intermix jokes inside selected words...

One language barrier example I could give from the Joel 2 as it describes the robotic, GPRS controlled warfare around the corner: can u dig that bible language when the story vision describer even did not have the words for those machines?? O'boy mikäpoika.

well the wheels only stayed on the car a week and a half before the ice storm hit and that was with slow crusing speed.the trans prob didnt happen until the day after i got stuck in the ice. but i didnt redline the car to get out. and as of today it still hasnt did it anymore. also the strut was fixed last night. the strut was 60 bucks and my friends mechanic put it on for 50 bucks. even though its only one strut the car rides a little better now. and yes a really noticeable difference.

and as to the tranny was it a failing sign or just a twist of luck for that night. one more question though. the mechanic also told me both of the cv axles were bad it had no boot on it and all the grease was gone. its been like that since i first got the car in january but it has never made that clacking noise when I turn. how much longer can i go on them before really needing them replaced.his labor will only be 50 bucks per axle.

Even without the noise, I wouldn't take any chances. It could have another 6 months, could have another 6 miles. Who knows? But considering the ease of replacement and the consequences of it breaking and leaving you stranded on the side of the road in a snowstorm, you should do it sooner rather than later.

My Maxima has a similar issue with the overdrive when the tranny is cold, it wont shift into overdrive.. - but I think it's just that, the transmission being cold. After a few minutes it shifts into OD...Sorry I couldnt help ya!

It is normal for a auto tranny to not shift into overdrive when cold.{helps to speed up warming of the engine.}

In the winter months you will notice it more because it takes longer to get the car up to normal operating temp.

This guy just lost it on here huh?!?! For his information, the original post person (lol I forgot who started it) they were talking about the hell their MAXIMA went through...afterall, this is Maxima.org not pyschiatrictherapy.org, and the actual saying goes: When you think you have it bad, theres always someone who has it WORSE (not bad again lol) and that goes for you toooo max_on_17 - theres other people who have it plenty worse than that (although that is sad, but that's life, death is inevitable) I'm sorry to hear that, but just think about the people who were caught in those tsunamis over the christmas weekend just for an example..theres ALWAYS someone who has it WORSE - so please don't try and make us all feel sorry for you.

It's not what the 3rd gen max does to us...its what incompatible personalities online do to people...
