Snow Drifting

Well i know its not real drifting, but snow drifting is fun. I just got back from an hour's worth of drift and that was the most fun my 3rd gen has given me. What's funny is that while i was driving to the parking lot, there was another 3rd gen car in front of me with the same thoughts. Ha, i love my car, and its that time of year where i just want to thank every one on the org for all there help.

If u can find a frozen lake with miles each direction, 2-4" snow on, get speed over sixty and loose rear wheel with handbrake and get u car speeding miles -sideways-

Try to drive big O always your rear tires loose =sideways. When u can do that continuously at will, without errors, youre ready for rally...

Last time I was trying to do some drifting, I ended up hitting a parked car, and it was the only car on the block. :-) But drifting is a blast when theres nobody around.

Oh and Wiking, they have front wheel drive in rally?

try putting your car in reverse, turn the wheel all the way to 1 side and give it some gas. i dunno about a maxima but doing that in a dodge caravan is fun AND funny as hell.

Me? ...sunday rallydriver formyself... no comprendo real 4WD rally. When I was kid, Mini Cooper was the front wheel Rally starrocket of that time. My first car, 4WD Ford Jeep, first when had lisence was Morris Mini, front drive "papertiger".

Snow: Front wheel is superior to rear wheel, but surely not to 4WD. And btw, my manual front wheel drive 60hp Adam Opel with its narrow 145x13 wheels beats any floating (=205x15) maxima any time. On snow, that is. Its funny to curve in the snow around revving/smoking BMW's with my old red button, man are they furious as they vanish into the Adam's rear mirror... their spoiler comes to real help as friends try to push over that small snowball.

I need space not to destroy others... but the real men make awesome stunts. Big Lake: it is great to make your own track and have a competition. Still dont like elctric windows: if car brakes through the ice, car always floats few minutes... but if power is off, youre trapped if u have no hammer to break windows...

I say if my electricity fails I'll kick the hell out of my windows. There's no reason in trying to save it from destruction. BTW I can maintain 35 mph in about 2 inches of snow and make a complete stop without losing traction in about 50 feet. My moms 03 Alti can barely get over 25 without spinning out. I love the cast Iron engine giving me extra weight. I'm going to miss it once I get my KA(-T).

you do realize that the chances of your foot breaking the window is pretty slim.
try breaking it now, with the car out in the air.
you're better off keeping a small pointed hammer or a piece of a broken spark plug (ceramic part) in the car to break the window

True. However, been in quite a many situations, learned to prepare for few: In this case its preparing mentally, having a hammer located such a way that it will not slip out of reach, also knife, phone. Its no picknick although feels like 10x it... I have not yeat taken my 'grannieboat' to ice, use the 2gen for it.

I figured that since I used to play football and can leg press 350 lbs I can get myself into a stable position and do Bruce Lee on it. I usually wear my Tims in the winter anyways. Why would I break a perfectly good window right now? Besides if my feet can't I always keep a screw driver set in the glove compartment. Either way you put it I'm getting out of that car. Food for thought though. If anyone decides to put their 3rd gen over ice is crazy. I mean the car weighs over 3 thousand pounds. But if a freakish acident ever happens an average person tends to freak out shortly. If you find yourself stuck inside of your car as it is sinking into a river will your first thought be I know that hammers here somewhere? Or will it be WTF!!!!? How the hell did this happen!!!?

Leg press? ie.. machine? I pressed about 700-800lbs on the machine. But only about 350 or so on a free weight squat.

Wikings are that grazy :) Speeding on endless ice sheet - Best hobby ever. Done this all mi life, still do it in the land of living... Grazy people tend to survive, stupidos tend to have a natural loss. Anyways mental preparation is the key, if smtg happens u have to have your selections prepared. One of the few rallydriver (not me) tasks is to be aware always of obstacles all around, that when things start to happen [they do], he will not hit the nearest rock.

More dangerous is driving on the road: u never know who is (is there anybody?) behind oncoming truck steeringwheel, no time to think hammers if it suddendly blocks your road... And most deathly place on earth: bed.

So lets be prepared to eternity and enjoy Maximized LiFe!

Me and my buddies "made" a drift course at our work. More so, we just weave in and out in the parking lot hoping not to hit the huge light poles or islands in the middle. When we're closed, we all go out into the parking lot and f*ck around 'til the cops come and tell us to get the hell home! lol

hey the thread was appropriate so what the heck

those were 4wd drifts, i pick up speed then kick out the rear end so it slides then cut the front wheel to the direction of drift and feather the gas. I nailed it perfectly in the 1st video but then i got too excited after that and tried too hard and couldnt get it again

I dont like playing in 4wd, I usually keep it in 2wd, but its 11ndty billion times easier to spin I dont like the feel of the steering in 4wd in the Jimmy :-/

the worst part is when you get traction when you dont want it

I just wish we would get some snow

Wiking- I was looking at your site. You and I are both in frigid lands, how much did your heat increase after insulating the heating pipes? What kind of insulation did you use?

I used to go skitchen with my 92 mustang GT. We'd tie a couple of sleds to the back of it and then go tearing around walmart's parking lot in the snow. good times.

I used to go skitchen with my 92 mustang GT. We'd tie a couple of sleds to the back of it and then go tearing around walmart's parking lot in the snow. good times.

First time had to do smtg on my new diesel [read: freezer golf] Golf in the 80's. That one had a genius de signer: four foot hose starts from front, is almost visble outside...

This is 'first thing' I do with any car I touch, thereby did not measure this 50th ? rig. But think of the basic physics: this tube [good heat radiator] area must be near your heater core capacity. All this sits in the freezing wind as u drive. Cannot say the numbers inside cabin, but the change is enormous.

As insulation u can use almost anything with insulation capacity ['porous' characteristics] which is easy to strap on. I used the free plush -garment strips I have used for soundproofin [super stuff!]; they have a thin foam layer. Winded it on, and used tie-wraps to secure [this is important! not to burn u vehicle with smtg droppin on the exhaust pipe]. There are always people who tell this and that of flammability: but think what is rubber? ...next: what is rubber hose with gas inside??? ...my car is full of such potential 'gas-rubber-bombs'. So almost anything goes, in insulation first 1/4 inch is important [have done these thermal value calculations and testings]
