hey, anybody here have pics of a max with painted rear center piece (the trunk piece). I am planning on painting my car, and if it looks nice, I may do this.

If

If you're going to keep your car the same color, buy yourself some black electrical tape and tape over the center piece. This way, you can judge how it looks yourself.

If I am thinking of the same thing....

That piece on the rear of the car where the long light goes. ( Trunk Lid) is shaved on the car in the pic not just painted over. they actually take out that l;ight and replace it with sheet metal they re finish the area. It is kinda costy.

That's fine, I am planning on doing all the work myself. Just curious how it looks.

Man If you have the extra money and you think that you can do this it looks really good. But unless you have some experience with working o a body I would not do it myself. This is very hard to do from what I hear. You have to weld the new sheet metal on the trunk then get it sand down to where you can no longer see any lines. But if you are up to it and think that you can do it good luck. I am going to have mine done. I like it. It sets you out from all the other maximas.

That's the thing, it won't cost me any money

I can get somebody to weld teh sheet on, and I can sand it down myself. And if I screw up, somebody else can help me out I'm not sure if I like that look though.

Its cool

I think it would look ok as long as you let the chrome piece that wraps all the way around the mono light asembly stay. I think this piece is only on GXE's not sure though. Without that defining line it looks realy wierd. Just my oppinion

Re: Its cool

Before you go ahaead with this be warned that sanding is not as simple as it seems. Not like sanding with a piece of sandpapaper! You have to use a motorized sander and those are a B**CH to use if you are inexperienced. The weld must be sanded perfectly because every little imperfection will show up 10 fold once the car is painted, you would think that the paint would cover mistakes but it actually makes them look worse. My dad is a custom painter and his friend does all sorts of crazy body work, bosy kits, shaving handles, fabrication and everything you could imagine. The sanding is probably the most crucial part because welding is relatively simple. Just wanted to tell you before you got too far into this. Good luck!

How much would you be asking for it with the spoiler? I might be interested.

You could go to the local

decal shop and they could make you a sticker. I dont think it would look that bad. Phill @ Grafik DEzine did his back lights on his BMW and did eyebrows for the front

I'm kind of anti-sticker in place of paint

$300 for the trunk and the spoiler. The wing alone is worth that much almost since it is brand new. It would be a smart idea to sell them together or someone would have to patch the holes that the wing left. Let me know if you or anyone else is interested. It looks really nice. Not a fake ol sicker or vinyl. The trim is shaved to the botttom like you see in the sig. Its not tacky lookin at all.
