I hate being Grounded!!

I finally fixed my wierd idle on my 92 se 5spd (actually i fixed it a few weeks ago) and so i decided to ground the vtcs becuase they are clacking pretty bad. But it ended up making the car run like crapola. I did unplug the ground on the battery for a while to reset the ecu and then let the car run for a while and drove around and it still ran like crap. It idled rough and seemed to try and search for a smooth idle. When i drove it i noticed a deffinet loss in topend power and say i was in 3rd and let off on the gas and let the engine slow down it would kick back like it wanted to stall. i figured i would write this and throw it out there for any others having similar problems with grounding the vtcs. Im not real worried about it as i will end up rebuilding them in spring it will give me a nice weekend project.any feedback would be nice it seems that grounding works for everyone else im stumped

yeah my old auto 93 had a similar problem when grounded. It never would idle smooth and would have a little hickup in the idle. Didnt really notice it while driving though.

after a while, the ECU will adapt and the idle will smooth out. I haven't had problems with mine for a couple years now. When I first did it, it had a horrible idle.

I didnt know ECUs could "adapt" on their own

Yup.. cool, eh?
takes about 3-500 miles for it to do it, but they do adapt to changes in the engine.. basically it changes the timing and fuel curves slightly, and that takes a while to do.
