1992 Maxima sudden loss of power, hesitation
1992 Maxima sudden loss of power, hesitation(***Found Fault***)
I have 1992 maxima gxe. The other day was driving along and all of a sudden a 5 sec loss of power going down the road at 55mph. coming back home everything was fine. Next day it happened twice-- loss of power down to a crawl then it seems to work its self out and will function normal again. I looked under the hood no obvious signs of vaccum leaks or wires broken. I replaced the fuel filter, dist cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires. I started it up today and noticed that it runs fine at idel and through the range until it warms up then as you accelerate from 500 to 2000 rpm's it breaks up and hesistates and backfires small ones i believe through the manifold. I accessed the computer and the only code showing up is the oxygen sensor(code 33). I plan on replacing this, but I have my doubts that this is the major problem. The car has 162,000 miles on it and is in great shape and up till know ran great. Does any one have any ideas if you think it is the fuel pump or coil? I was suspicious at first that it might be the gas as it will run fine and then all of a sudden it will start bucking and jerking an then bog down to a crawl, then it will clear up and run fine. I put in 2 cans of dry gas, but I am at a loss for what to do now. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Went searching today for the problem noticed that the oxygen sensor harness on the engine side had a lose connection. The white wire had come loose from the internal crimp connection in the factory gray housing. I cut the white wire from the oxygen sensor and connected to the white wire that was loose. Car seems to run alright now. The code 33 still shows up on the computer, and a code 21 now shows up. Says only a dealer can fix. Does anyone no if this is true? How do you set back the o2 sensor.

the computer has a screw in the side of it to pull codes with.
and if 1 connector had come loose on your o2 chances are the others are bad as well.
you should have just replaced the o2.
