Water leak in trunk
Water leak in trunk
I have had two 3rd Gen Maximas. Both of them leaked water in the trunk when it rained. I never found the problem on the first one. The car I have now actually fills up the spare tire well when it rains. Anyone else have this problem and know where the leak is coming from?
Yeah, I'm trying to find the leak in my trunk as well. I found that the antenna mast was loose, but the water wasn't coming from there. It seems to be coming in by my right brake lights, but I have'nt confirmed it yet.
check where the top of your taillight meets with the body, when water drains off that little gutter in the trunk it falls on the top of the tail light if there is any gap it will leak down into the spare tire well. i filled mine with caulk and it hasn't leaked since.

Maxima, its HOT. And btw, if I 'feel' right, soft change has vanished after battery gnd cleanup (+0.5V gain), could be wrong. Also hassled with my tranny computer connector...
I ahve had that same problem as well for months. Mine aslo fills the spare tire well. When i the water would come to the front thus wetting the fllor and rear seats... What i did to fix that was take outthe rubber plug int the spare tire well. I never found where the water is coming from thouhg. I got a new center piece thing that was the problem. Also got a new left tailight cause it has a tiny crack i thought might have been it. After replacing those same problem. My antenna is broken but from the top i doubt that so much water can come in threw a 1 inche hole with nothing around it..... Someone should really find out what this is. it would help alot of pple.
Take your side trunk panels out - mainly the drivers side. Look where the seatbelt mounts. You'll probably see a trace a water trickling down from this area and ending directly in your spare tire well. If you're unfortunate, that water trace will look rusty already. If you're REALLY unfortunate, the water trace will be rusty AND you'll be able to manually remove your seatbelt just by pulling on it (cause it'll be rusted right through). Has happened to me on both my cars... - unfortunately.

What do you mean the side cushion part?? I mean open your trunk, and remove ALL the grey panelling that covers the inner wheel-wells. Then stick your head up under the rear deck and take a really good look at the area the rear seat belt MECHANISMS bolt-up (not the anchor bolt under the rear seat). Our cars can rust pretty badly up there and let TONS of water in - depending on the severity of the rust, or course.

the rubber seal thats on the lip (all the way around the trunk edge)comes off easy and when takin stuff in\out i ve accidently moved it several times and only noticed caused i saw water in there but its normaly dry as long as i check\re mount the section of the seal every now and then
I'd suggest when it warms up, running a hose over the trunk. After you run a bunch of water, then look for leaks. Mine was leaking at the driver's side rear tail light. I bought some black rubber silicon gel and caulked the upper edge. I also put that stuff on the interior side, after removing the trim panel. Otherwise make sure the big rubber trunk seal is ok
