car wont go in reverse very easy.

Ive got an Automagic transmission and i know that this has been covered before, but my car has to be pushed just right for it to go into reverse. I remember it being something easy to fix. Could anybody refresh my memory so i could fix this soon. its annoying.

thizzanks.

Arn't you supposed to be able to do that, every car I can remeber driving is like that, and besides it makes neutral slamming a whole lot easyer...

yeah u can knock any car's transmission from D into N... so u mite've replaced the burshing for nothing... but i also have a problem when i put it into D, it doesnt engage, so i have to tap the shifter backwards a bit, and then it catches on... is that a problem wit the brushing also?

Exactly what I have. I just learned to go back into 2nd, and then into D.

xpl0sive...

simply knocking a shifter into N or in my case it could easily and i stress easily be tapped althway into R. seems pretty dangerous don't you think? i'm about 500% positive i didn't replace a cheap part for nothing...

twinkle...neutral drops are pretty healthy for your tranny.....good luck with that

Hey this is a little off subject, but not quite....I have an automatic transmission as well, and while I have no problem switching into reverse, etc while the car is already in gear - I do have a problem shifting it out of park.

normally I have to depress the brake pedal to "unlock" the shifter and then I can push the button on the shifter and switch it out of Park and into gear.. Lately I've noticed that sometimes the thing in my brake does not unlock the shifter and then I have to use the manual override button located on the front and very bottom of the shifter to get the dam thing outta park! (Nissan must have anticipated this issue..thus why they put the override button there..hehe)

Anyway, does anyone know why this could be happening? Please let me know Thanks!

I also get the anti-click 'sometimes' when I depress the break to release from Park.
I figured it was the shifter solenoid, but I've been lazy getting around to it as it's not a total annoyance just yet.

Hi - how do you order a shift lever bushing? Could someone please send instructions on replacing it - or is it that simple?

Thanks

When the thing is actually working it always clicks when I press the brake pedal, but when its not working there's nothing (no sound) but my foot pushing the pedal...

What is a shifter solenoid? And how much does this cost? Could I replace it myself? Maybe thats my prob.... My Max has been doing this on and off for about a month or 2 now...I've just never gotten around to asking anyone about it cause I dont want to spend anymore money than I have to, and at this point it's not a major nuisance, but sometimes, when I got my hands full - its a pain in the *** to have to push the override button and push the shift selector to move the dam thin. If it was cheap and I can fix it myself, I'd do it.

so start by checking to see if the solenoid is recieving the power to engage / disengage.
then if that doesn't check out, check the switch at the pedal.

If you're not getting power to the solenoid, then chech the switch on the brake pedal.
