We have lots of snow here, but I am east of the Cascades. I think we have about 4-5 inches on the ground and had another inch last night and I think it is 33 degrees right now on my lunch.

Quit whining and fix your car. At least figure out what's wrong before the thing catches on fire. Maybe that will warm you up.

Hi,

i had the samething happen to me yesterday,

i think when it is cold outside the temp guage drop down and the ecu think the engine is cold so it go back into warm up mode so the ecu tells the fuel injector to dump more fuel into the engine until the temp guage is back to normal then the ecu tells the fuel injector to not dump that much fuel into the engine,

i smell the gas from the vent when i was driving my car last night in a very CA rainning day,

Since the fuel injection system is a closed system, why would you be smelling anything though the vents if your description of the problem was accurate?

if you smell fuel...its leaking....if you smell it from the vents in the cold....its probably leaking somewhere in the engine bay...hasn't there already been a thread on this..."IF its cold, and you smell gas from the vents..."
im going to say you have a very small crack on a hose on your fuel rail. the cold causes the hose to shrink making it leak fuel and giving the fuel smell in your vents...then it warms up...causing the hoses to expand...closing the holes....

Yes. I've (among coutless others) have commented on this very thing for the last few years. Plus it's the SECOND sticky. You would think that maybe SOME of you 3-genners would have seen it.

Hehe...yea I think Im the one who started the other thread on this (a few weeks back) which inevitabily led to DanNY to create that stickie!!

(I never did get my fuel rail looked at tho...dropped a lot on that tune-up so figured I'd wait til it gets real bad and my car blows up under my a$$!! - Seriously though, the smell has seemed to gone away even in the cold mornings lately..so i think i'll wait til it comes back)

P.S. You know people, its easier to read the dam stickies up there; especially since theyre the first dam thing you see when entering this forum, then to post a whole new thread and wait for replies (THE ANSWER IS ALREADY THERE!)

the stickie format isn't logical enough IMHO, and too many of them.

it really should have more of a flowchart feel to it.
