yup, it gets the cb stamp of approval. I've had the Pacesetter shifter for several years now and it makes the car a lot more fun to drive. It does make the shifting a little notchier, but definitely worth it in my opinion.

a bit too hard to shift imo but i think mine has issues... or my install... one of the two.

pacesetter isn't really known for top quality but they are ok. the one thing i do like is it seems they make the only sts with this short of a throw.

I made the throw as short as possible on my pacesetter sts and I love it. At first it was notchy but, now it isn't notchy at all. I don't know why this is but the only reason I can think of is that I put redline mt-90 in at the same time as the sts. Maybe the mt-90 took some time to work it's way through the tranny.

go stillen if you can swing it. Ps is ok but the quality of the stillen one is day and night compared to the PS or SMC

The key is to adjust the tightness of the nuts holding the ball in place...if you overtighten them the STS becomes extremely notchy and difficult to get in and out of gears, but if you play with them, you can achieve a good feel.

I have mine set all the way down, I like it...big difference from stock.

I need to get a factory shift **** again though. I replaced it with a B&M and it sits a little higher now.

yes, but dont make them too loose because they will work themselves off and then it makes it really tough to shift when they fall off and you have to drive 60 miles back home
You could probably use some lock nuts on there and get them on tight but not overly tight and they wouldn't fall off.

Yeah from what I have been reading on shifters, the install and tightening of those few bolts plays a large role on how the shifter feels.. makes sence.....
-people also replace the "return spring" when down there... should I do the same?

shifters that look very similar seem like they would work but I don't think anyone has tried it.

I put a stiffer spring in when I cut my stock shifter. It feels much better. The only problem is that it doesnt really wanna return from the 5th/reverse gate, but it's not that big of an issue.

so, if you play with the nuts just right, you'll get a good feel?

ok are u saying not to over tighten the nuts that join the shifter to the linkage? or are u talking about the pivot ball at the base of the shifter? I have a pacesetter, the only screw that is on the ball is the one that allows u to adjust height. let me know? maybe i mis-understood you my prob is the ball itself!!! seems like i need to hook a damn lubrication hose up to the ball so it stays douced in lubrication to offset the heat from the cat. I read a thread about someone using washers as a spacer around the pivot ball? anyone know any prodecures on this? does it work?

just got a update from a fellow org member, in regards to the problem some of us have had with sluggish pacesetter STS. he said to use white lithium grease instead of the normal bearing grease, due to the size of our cats and the heat that is produced. the OEM i thought used the same pivot ball as our pacesetters ball but that is not true different composition. So by using the lithium grease( the grease should be able to be used for both cold/hot temp applications) will resolve the sluggish feel after driving the car for a while!!! will do this this weekend will let you know!!
