should I rebuild the engine(VE)?

I've been having trouble with my VE. It dies randomly and starts right up after cutting off. I checked the ECU no codes come back. I measured the resistance on all the coils. Injectors click. My questions are, should I get the engine rebuilt, what is replaced in a rebuild, How much would it cost to rebuild it or get another
VE motor. Will the VTC be replaced too, mine clacks like a diesel engine.

P.S. I don't have cash for a 4th or 5th gen right now.

I need some good feedback before fully retiring my beloved VE. Thanks guys

Check your mass air flow sensor or your fuel pump.

No need to rebuild it unless your burning oil or if it has very high miles.

When mine died randomly and everytime I took a hard right turn it was the ign coil relay. It is green and on the side box in the engine compartment. The eng cont relay is the same and may be suspect also. I wouldn't rebuild the engine for what problems you seem to have.

As they said.. you have a somewhat minor electricl problem. the hard part is finding it, but the costs won't be much once you do find the problem. there is no need to rebuild the engine.

Ground effects kit

I wanted to know if you had a picture of your ground effects kit and did it include the fog lights as well. I have a 94 Max.

94 Single Cam with problems

I have a 94 Nissan Maxima, single cam. Every now and then the car shakes like a fuel injector is bad, but after I driver it for about five to ten minutes it goes back to normal. I suspect something is wrong with the injectors. I just had a major tune up. Should I replace all the injectors. I only have 143,XXX original miles on my car.

Thanks,

B

No need to junk, sensor or harness/connector/gnd problem... I had similar problems, now runs better than new. Read carefully through my web page.

don't replace anything until you've confirmed what the problem is.
first figure out which cylinder is having the problem.
then check to make sure the cylinder is recieving the signal to fire the injector consistently.
it is possible that the injector went bad (nothing too unisual on these cars).
my car will do it occasionally, but I don't worry about it.

I was driving on the highway doing at least 55 and the car would cut off. I put it in neutral, turn the key back then to start, the car would start back up as if nothing happened. Has THAT happened to anyone. or is it gremlins in my max. LOL

Let me tell you one easy thing to do, make sure you have exhaust coming out of your tailpipe, mine was dying a long time ago and it turned out to be a plugged cat.

i used a screwdriver and listened for clicking on the right injectors, they work. When I do a balance test by removing the coils on the right bank there is one that doesn't cause the engine's rpm to drop. I switched that coil with one that did pass the balance test, it didn't do anything. What could cause that?

I've had the same problem for more than a year now. I have replaced several injectors, a few coils, the O2 sensor, the TPS (twice), the MAF sensor (which inexplicably made the car run like sh*t shortly after I put it in, but the original was fine anyway), and still there's no improvement. The problem with my car, I think, is the power transistor. I tested the original and found it to be malfunctioning, so I bought a used one here on the forum (new ones are incredibly expensive). That didn't work, but I have yet to test the new one.

bad injector, a bad plug, or a dead cylinder (highly unlikely).

the idle would bounce up and down from 1000 rpm to 300 and vice versa then stabilize at 600. It would keep doing this until i shut it off.

ya know, it's really funny my max was running on 3 cylinders but it never died on me except when I tried to turn on the A/C.
BTW your defroster turns on the A/C

I even replaced my spark plugs with the "factory-recommended" ones, Bosch or NGK platinum or something, because after a computer diagnostic run, the book said that the plugs, the coils, or the ECU could be the problem. Anyway, it cost me a lot of money, but didn't do a thing. I'm really hoping that it's the PT for me. I'm sick of this problem and I'm sick of trying to fix it.

Does the car start right up after it dies? If it stays dead for a few minutes then you could check for things like fuel and spark to see which one is the problem. I have a 300zx Turbo that kept dying after driving for a while and then it would start back up after a minute or two, but eventually died completely so I could diagnose that it was spark, and then start testing from there. It ended up being the Crank Angle Sensor in the distributor. I know VE's don't have a distributor but it could be something to do with spark, you just have to be patient so that it will die long enough for you to diagnose it. Good luck.

Your site is pretty good. Actually, it is very good. Nice diagrams and pics with text ballons. I really like this touch:

could the crank angle sensor cause this kind of problem?

Yes. And groundings for it, harness, connectors... VE has that box in the end of front cam, if I am not wrong. Although most probably this causes only ECU to drop in safe mode =2000rpm limit. Test this theory by unplugging the connector...

Btw. Disconnect the ECU safety relay at the trunk rear panel for just tst purposes. That is not needed, protects from wrong battery polarized connection (you will not do that, will u?)

Fault possibilities:
Ign switch worn =ECU loses engine pwr on signal
ECU pwr drops off =connectors, ECU relay...
AND all the other connecting prbl already mentioned....

--->its THE BOSCH! Throw them and fast for the crocodiles! Get whatever carrots but never bosch plugs. If idle wanted, that is. Ten yr old 100k champions run better than new bosch.

hhhmm ahhh. That burst made a goood feelin'...
