VE and VG Automatic Transmissions interchangeable?

Just like the topic says. I have a 94 GXE that needs a new automatic transmission. Will a transmission from a 92 or later SE work as well? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Mike

bolt up, yes.. but I don't know about all the control circuitry and such. they are different transmissions, but I can't say for sure on the control circuitry.

yeh you might need the newer Auto Tranny controller to go with it... im not sure if the ECU signals will be the same, but i do not have any reason to believe that Nissan changed their routing method/signals...

You can use a 92-94 GXE one... is there a reason you are looking at the SE ones?

As far as I heard SE (404) auto is way not so crappy as GXE one (402).

I'm looking to buy a used transmission, so I just want to be sure of what I should/shouldn't be looking for. Thanks for the replies so far!

the 92-94 GXE trannies are much better than the 89-91 trannies, but they also require a new TCU because the controls are different.

the ECU signals from the VE and VG may be different as well, since the ECUs are completely different. I wouldn't expect it to be completely plug and play.

Trasmission types. But I may be wrong with those numbers.
In other words I heard that SE VE auto tranny is way better then VG auto one.

When I got my tranny replaced they didn't change my TCU. I got a 93 GXE tranny in my car now.

Yup.. the 92-94 seem to hold up better due to some revisions they did in them. exactly what, I don't know.
Just looked in FAST, and the 89-92 have a different part number than the 93-94 models... so I was a year off.
