Speaker questions

The next two days i am going to be installing new front and rear speakers.
I have a few questions that i was hoping some of you could address.
I have a 1990 Maxima GXE everything is stock (non-bose).

I got to the rear speakers once before, the stock speakers are two 5" or 5-1/4" clarion speakers.
1 - Could i use 6"x9" speakers in the rear? and if so what modifications if any would i need to do?
2 - If that requires a lot modification could i use 6.5" in the rear? and if so what modifications if any would i need to do?
3 - What are the stock front speakers? and i read in earlier posts that you could fit 6"x9" or 6.5" speakers there. Would making panels similar to this http://www.geocities.com/bracecraig/...eo/stereo.html work as the modification needed?

Thanks on the input in advance

I just replaced my front speakers in my 91 Bose system. I used 6.5" with a speaker plate fabricated from 1/4 plywood. I planned on using 2 pieces of 3/4" mdf sandwiched together like on Craigs page, but I skimped because of time. Mine fit fine, but I will be doing the MDF board later to help angle the speakers. Problem with my 6.5's is that to fit them I had to mount them kinda high in the speaker hole in the door, if I would have built the MDF enclosure it would have allowed them to go lower and angled up towards the driver. Mine sound fine, but I think it could be better. I will try again in the spring though when I can work outside more with warmer weather and better lighting than in my garage....

You should be able to put 6.5 in your rear easy. Doors are normally 4x6 but you can put in 6.5 like jasba said.

if you won't want to make your own 6.5s mounts for the front doors, you can order a set from james92se. he makes some good stuff, and it'll bolt right up. I myself got a pair of his mounts in my doors right now.

Also i was wondering if the 6.5" bolt in the same way the current 5" or 5-1/4" clarions do?

As far as the rear speakers go I put some 6x9's in a couple of weeks ago (Kenwoods if it matters) had to fold back the metal under the parcel shelf with a pair of tin snips and pliers and cut the flimsy shelf with a strong stanley knife (will be replacing this with mdf later) it was a fairly simple process although remember to cut back (towards the *** of the car) not forwards as the big magnets have a tendancy to latch onto bars connected to the boot.
NB. Australian laws regarding integrity of the shelf (the metal part anyway) are fairly strict and I may need a new shelf when I sell the car but thats a problem for another day.

Buy some 6x9 boxes, cut them in half (at an angle) with a band saw mount, them over the stock holes, and mount the speakers. I've done this on two different cars and it looks/ sounds great.
