91 maxima exhaust problems

I had the exhaust fixed about 2 months ago and the car sounded fine. Then recently it got really loud. I went to a shop and found out that my flexpipe had a nasty leak because it was old. The day the sound got even worse was the day my brother told me he did 120 while racing another 3rd gen. Basically what I want to know is did the flex pipe just give or did the "120 mph" have anything to do with the "EVEN WORSE" exhaust noise? Thx in advance.

your flex pipe just went bad the 120 mph had nothing to do with it. i work for a muffler shop ...we sell the flex pipes for $100.00 pluse tax. i took mine off and put a pice of pipe in there...

and you work for a muffler shop?
you have no right working there, the advice you just gave is bad and potentially dangerous, not too mention costly.
the flex pipe is there to allow the pipe to move with the engine rather than act against which WILL cause breakage. just get some dough and replace it, like he did say correctly it should be about $100 installed for just the flexpiece. If the rest of the pipe is bad then you're talking 200+ with installation.

Thats the way life goes... however, its all yours...

The oldies did not have CAT's or flex, had shortened pipe life as engine vibs ripped the pipe apart.
Taking all out from u car will always shorten parts lifetime by half. Surely the flex is a goner from day one, but the more u flex, the nearer is the end. With granpa it might have lasted 2yrs...

you never said that you were going to fix it correctly.
I didn't say you couldn't do it.
I said you're a moron for doing it.

$100 for a flexpipe??????????? Is the lube free? And by all means, do what you wish to fix it. Hmmm solid exhaust + crappy Nissan manifold studs =

Maybe he welds it to the chassis for extra strenght?? Actually I heard of one nestor welder who welded his exhaust manifold to chassis. Twice broke off, both times got ticketed for noise and kept wondering why weldings last only one week... not heard since.

Hey son, its all yours, dont get offended. Everybody's got a birthright kindly to offer whats wrong and whats right!

Edit: actually u said that its a temporary fix: nothing wrong in that except the stress on the manifold studs...

Basically I never want to insult anybody. Quite often stumble with my edit, if somebody feels insulted, my apologies are here and genuine.

Autozone?? Yeah right. How about $55-65 from one of a well respected DSM tuner supply place? I'm sure your "exhaust place" is much better right?

I can't tell whether everyone here is saying you gave bad advice or not =)
So it wasn't my brother's fault for the sound getting worse?

Note on the communications issue, which is polarized via typed text: No tone -expressions, no faces to figure out intentions etc, one flick can turn the whole issue around... veery easy to misunderstand.

One problem with my background [=groundings fan -a- tics] is, in our culture we are/live in constant 'wrestling' with words and havin fun on their triple meanings. This behaviour model is strange to most americans and hardest hats get offended. To meee havin fun with issues (not person integrity) is the salt in life, and cannot drop it off. Hopefully some get the idee: I never want to bully or shout anybody into the swamp, but have fun while insisting on my [often los tupidos] point of view. And feel like winner even all is lost...

Having seen some heated discussions here, cannot believe people want to harm anybody with words - but still dont want to back out from issues what they see right. On the other hand, the hard hats will always be offended, even while someone making apology, so do not worry too much, give Grace.

Have a nice day, all friends!

It might have went bad when your bro drove it. But it was most certainly already bad to begin with.

Thanks for your help guys. It's just that he keeps insisting that it wasn't his fault that it got even worse than before. I just hate people who lie. Family or not. Honesty is the best policy. (i sound like a saturday afternoon special)
