4th gen head unit??

im looking into replacing the stock bose cassette/radio on my 92 with a bose cd/cassette/radio so i can keep my stock speakers. But will the HU from a 4th gen fit into my car? will it require any custom work? thanks

I do believe that you can, since its a DIN size, now to get the right wiring and colors. I haven't tried it, so I don't really know, try asking Craigh, he's the electronic genious for our 3rd gen.

it'll fit just fine but as datgruntled said, the wiring is different
easiest way is to buy a couple of harnesses to make an adapter harness so no cutting will be required.
neccessary harnesses are on my site.

I as well as a couple of others here have done this. What I did was go to a junk yard and get the wires out of a 4th gen to hook to the radio. Then I got a regular 3rd gen harness and hooked them to the 4th gen harness (as if it were an aftermarket radio). It is a lot easier to do it with the color coded wires on internetautomar site.

not sure look on his site or ask him.

its probably two different harnesses. One is the 4th gen HU harness and the other is the 3rd gen installation harness (what you would get to install any aftermarket radio in the 3rd gen).

The wires will be color coded and labeled that way so it will be cake to do.

I got a 4th gen unit that I will be installing in my 3rd gen as soon as I get the time and adapter. I have researched it, and there are some Bose specialist reapir guys in Florida who can help you. I know that one of them has a ready-made adapter that will work out of the box for around $35. I can try to find his contact info if you want.

Try this place->
http://www.carstereohelp.com

I've talked to the guy, and he's very friendly, experienced, and helpful. I'm sure he can hook you up. Any other Bose problems can also be addressed by him.

Good Luck! Let me know how it sounds. I'm betting it will sound great!- Much better than a non-working Bose. Anyone out there think it is close to or better than oaftermarket?

Thanks,
Mrkanda

the fourth gen radio will work. I have a 98 cd/tape unit in my 93. I went to best buy and bought two connectors from there car stero department. cost me $15 for the 93 harness and $15 for the 98 harness. The package they come in tells what each color is, plus the wires say on them. Then just get some connectors from radio shack and in 20 minutes then radio's in. I also went on ebay and got a usa-spec 6disc changer that plugs right into the radio no hassels.
