that's called a jag brake or jake brake (depending on what brand you buy)..
simply an engine brake for the large trucks... I forget exactly how it's done inside the engine, but it can create some pretty impressive engine braking. the problem is that it's pretty damn loud..
a lot of cities have prohibited them due to the noise.

wow really...I wonder why? I have seen signs that say "no jake brakes" and such but that is an obvious reason behind that (man those things are loud when truckers hit them) and it was just in the city limits of a small town that had all the shops and stuff on that main road.
edit: wow so I should have responded before I took my daughter to school (when I actually opened this message but didnt respond until I got back)...seems its alread been covered.

LOL! The prices on this stuff are only going up for me, so unless you buy a huge pile of stuff, I'm losing money on those things by taking any more off the price. unfortunate, but you can thank China and Japan for buying up all the scrap steel and driving raw material prices to 6x what they were a year ago.. the aluminum bar I use for that stuff used to cost me $1.20 a foot.. it's over $8 a foot now, and the steel isn't any better!

I have to put a Fidanza in. Like someone said, the max is a whole different car without it.
They cant tell you HOW to drive....

i heard from a guy who opperated a trucking company that when they do that all of the exhaust valves stay open.... how they do that is beyond me. unless they don't use cams and just have hydraulic actuators or something.

I saw on a Trucks show once where they installed an aftermarket one on a late model turbo diesel. It goes on the exhaust some how I believe. I cant remember exactly but they showed how they install it and all.
If I were not lazy and had to leave for work I would do a google on it to see.

nice max. I love all the work you have done cant wait to hear how you do in sts. I think im going to have to run sm this year because i have a fidanza, high flow cat and im getting a stillen ecu in a few days (7600 here i come) got one off ebay for 370. have fun and where did you get your azenis sports im trying to find the cheapest place that sells them in 225 45 17 and as a suggestion you might want to try playing around with the front sway bar either put the stock one back on or lose it all together it will help you rotate but its good to leave the sus tech one on for street use have fun

1) My impact socket was too thick to fit inside... I found out a 1-1/16 socket is identical in size BTW. A normal socket just fits in there and all the ones I measured were pretty much identical in diameter at just under 36mm.
2) My LTB came slightly too short, which actually isn't a bad thing because it's easier to flatten out the bar slightly with a hammer than trying to bend it shorter. "Adjusted" it to fit nice and snugly.
3) One end had trouble fitting the socket to let me tighten it.... this was a combination of a slightly crooked hole (like the one pictured above) and a tight fit. I almost freaked out a bit before I figured out the simple solution of tightening that side first and then tightening the okay side second. No problem!
I've only got less than 1/4" clearance to my engine crossmember and Y-pipe though... hope this enough. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet, but look forward to it.

I saw something on Trucks or one of those other Spike TV car shows that they were showing an aftermarket tranny brake.
It bolted onto the end of the axle (RWD) near the U joint or whatever they call it. Then it was just like a brake rotor and had a caliper but they were just controlled by a lever and didn't have any fluid (similar to the rear parking brake system on the max).

I am very happy with all the parts that I have installed especially with the stuff I got from blemco. It is so great to have somebody who is willing to spend the time and money on developing mods for an ageing car. I took the car out for a drive every time I put something on just in case you were wondering. Soon I will have the shocks and struts on and hopefully I will finish the car but the middle of the season.
