1993 Maxima SE spd, is it worth it?

Hey everyone, I am a 4th gen owner, but I wrecked my Maxima. I am looking for a comprable car that I can buy with the insurance money I got from the wreck. I found this one, just wanted to know what to look out for. I already did a CARFAX report and it checks out just fine. Just felt you 3rd gen people would have some good advice on what to look for before buying! Thanks.

Here is the link to the car

If it is as good as it looks and sounds, then it is worth it. However, I would try and get the price down to $4,500. They are asking $4,900 but cash talks. I know here in SoCal VE 5 speeds are becoming rare, so I would hop on that thing if I were you, they are awesome cars.

If it's in excellent condition, fully loaded, then sure. You will have tons of fun with the car. Here in Washington maximas tend to sell above blue book by quite abit so that price is on par. But I know Mizeree got his for less than $3000 with 29k on it (IIRC) less than 2 years ago.

$5k might be a *little* high.

Of course, a VE 5spd with 90k miles is pretty rare these days. You're not going to find a good condition VE 5spd with under 100k miles often. I paid $4k for mine with 130xxx miles on it 2 years ago. Alot of these 3rd gen guys are cheap bastids and are probably going to tell you it's way overpriced, but IMO considering what it is and how good condition it *should* be in with only 90k miles I wouldnt say it's a bad deal.

I would personally say go check it out and if it's in excellent condition then $5k isnt a bad price

It seems high to me. True, the car has only 90k on it but more or less it's a 93. My advice is this-if you are planning on driving it for at least 5 years and the car is as great as it says then buy it. But if you'll drive it for 1-2 years only I would probably pass it. You can get a 4th gen for this money easy. I saw a 97 max with 113k on it that looked mint and drove great for $3750 at a local dealership. True, the car didn't have leather but it looked amazing...this was 6 months ago.

But you know not the awesome-ness of VE 5spd p0wAh. Plus the build quality would pwn a comparably priced 4th gen

I bought my 1991 SE A/T mid-2003 (Easter of 2003 to be exact) for $2700 (was originally asking $3200 but my bf talked the guy down)
At the time it has 104,000m and all the same options as the one your looking at except my interior is cloth, but not that ugly fake "velour" looking cloth (no offense guys) but more like a weaved type cloth ( I dont know how to explain it but its not your usual cloth interior) Black and Black/Grey interior and the car was in MINT condition...

so to sum it up...now in 2005, I think that price might be a LITTLE high, but then again your buying from a dealer and also like other people said - these cars are getting rare especially under 100,000 on it.

I agree with whoever said this b4: if your keepin it 5+ years, GO FOR IT DEFINITELY!! but if you only plan on having it around for a year or so, its not worth the cash.

That type of cloth is called tweed. I love it. I took out the leather interior from my VE 5spd and put in the tweed from my VE auto.

It still looks brand new. Tweed holds up VERY good

Thats too bad, if you find another one like that, pick it up! For reference, I paid $5600 for mine two years ago with a little under 37K miles, so $4900 isn't a bad price.

Actually, it had 67k, not 29k. But it was still a steal I sold my white 92SE auto w/ 136k for $2800, so the car ended up costing me a net $100 + title, reg fees, etc. Pretty good deal.

But this car was a VE ('93 SE) and your Se is a VG. '91 and prior 3rd gen SE's arent special (unless 5spd), because they have the same VG engine that my GXE has. The '92-'94 SE 5spd's are the @#$%!

I guess its a fair price. I guess you'd have to check regional prices and compare it to other Maxima's. Up here in the upper midwest, VE's are going to 1.5K-4K 92-94 with about 90-160K miles. IIRC I bought mine with 150K in Oct for $2,300, which at the time was $500 below KBB private party value. I could turn around and sell it for more locally than what I bought it for, but no

91 se5 loaded/leather 87k, $2,750. so i think 5k was a little too much anyway but get a 3rd gen, it was a blessing that you wrecked your 4th

That looks like a nice, clean max. It has the VG engine in it, so only 160hp compared to the VE's 190, but it still has plenty of potential, and is very reliable. That one looks well taken care of.

The car seems like a good deal, but sounds a little fishy. I can't remember the last time I saw someone born in 1930 driving a manual tranny. You do realize that this is going to be VG (160 hp) car, since it's a 91, right?

Well just ran the carfax, it was purchased in ohio, then driven in florida (sounds like where an old person would live...) until 2002 when it came back to ohio. 2 owners, guessing that would be the 1930's guy and his son...

That car should have been there?

Just want to inform you guys that I live above pittsburgh and always looking for maxima's. this car has been in the auto trader for going on 2 years. No BS. I never talked to the people down there but if you go to there website, they have ton's of maximas. I always wondered if these cars were just overpriced or not in good shape to stay in the autotrader (online) for so long. Just FYI.

I LOVE the tweed too! I'm not sure if I would have replaced the leather with it, but its the next best thing in my book! (but of course that depends on the condition that the leather was in).

My tweed is threaded with black and grey which looks AWESOME on my black Max...and yes, it holds up excellent. The car is 13+ years old and the interior looks brand spankin new! Did I mention that I love it??!?! lol

I wish I could have found the thread somebody had posted on here about the VG's - it had a great link stating that the VG is one of the, if not THE best engines Nissan has put out to that date in which the article was printed (i think it was '03)...just thought I'd add that in there!

But if this guy actually read my post, I said the price SOUNDS a BIT high. Not that it was extremely high..and also that he would be buying it from a DEALER and not private party, as I did. So uuhhh yea..there ya go.

Another nice thing about the tweed is that it grips well when the driving gets a little *ahem* spirited.

Kind of a pain to clean though

With good VTCs = good deal

With clackity VTCs = not that great of a deal.

Assuming the rest of the car is excellent and the valvetrain looks new.
