Performance Loss, Any Suggestions...

Well months ago, i had taken some advice put up by matt93se and craig braice for Modding, and cosmetically, the car is looking good inside and out....but now i got a big problem....

No Power. I lost a significan't amount of power and I just don't know what it could be. Going up hills, the car slows down...Its really slow to pass cars now too...
I had done some of the simple things like changed the fuel filter, plugz, replaced the K&N High Flo too....and still the same thing. Distributor Rotor and Cap have been changed as well. I even have a new Tranny in there about 9 months now.

Heres what ive noticed happen recently though.
- Acceleration is Poor. No Pick up at all.
- And a "Ticking noise" coming from the engine.
- Over taking vehicles on the highway is really hard because it lags to badly on pickup.

I do have a manifold leak also but im not sure if that would be a factor.

Anyone have any suggestions what i can do?

thanks

well first off the ticking. It is usually 99% of the time the manifold leak. i had that problem, now its gone. As for the reason you lost power, take it somewhere and check the computer codes to see if you get error codes thrown, then come back. people can help you a lot quicker with a better description. I mean its the same as if i came in and said my car wont start. It could be bout 20 different things. narrow it down for everybody.

oh my bad, yeah the computer passed. I had it checked.

Some other diagnostics were done like compression level checks and checking the MAF sensor.

So i hope that narrows it down....
I have been told the "ticking" could be something to do with the valves... Im not so sure..could be either or but since you mentioned it could be the manifold leak...ill look into it and let you all know.

Does the ticking go away when the car is heated up? My car ticks sometime until the oil temp is up.

well does your ticking go away when the car warms up, thats what it will do usually when you have broken manifold studs.

are you running on all cylinders?

yeah the ticking is gone when the car is warm....and what ive also noticed, starting the car at cold....while its in it's cold state, the pick up is somewhat back...but when it warms up, its back to a very slow pick up. and not much power. This morning coming to work. I had to floor it to pass a cavelier LOL! and i barely passed him, we were both goin 100km or 52mph

Did Compression Check Last night once again, all cylinders were fine.
I have some new development however, last night driving back, its starting to misfire every once in a while. So i checked back with all the spark plugs, wires and back to the cap. Everything seemed fine, no leaks.

Bad injector maybe, or throttle body dirty?

not sure

my VG beat a Z24.

how did you check the spark plugs, did you pull the wires?

correct me if im wrong but you check the spark on it by pulling th wire and if you hear the car try to die its a good spark plug, if it doesnt do anything its bad.....some one please correct me or affirm my calculations lol.

haly shart you have 3 maxs badman_maxima?

well first when i had the engine run....and pulled each wire individually and you know how the engine starts to run like crap when you take one out..so i was seeing if a plug was gone, and it was fine. Afterwards, a little later on, i took the plugs out to see how they look physically & they were fine too

The spark plug wires are new too. I traced it to the Rotor and Cap...opened it up, all the points were fine and there were no problems there either.

I was checking for a faulty coil. But the coil was ok too.

things I couldn't check were the injectors, and throttle body

keep in mind i did the basic tune up for it, fuel filter, plugs, air filter, rotor and cap and a new PCV as well.

So this narrows it down to it being the VTC, injectors, throttle body, or distributor. The last thing i wanna hear is throttle body or ECU is $#%#%. But its weird that i can't seem to find out why its slow. Tranny is pretty much new, only like 9 months old. So i don't think that was a problem.

Badmax

yo tripleG i only have one 3rd Gen....I have a Datsun Maxima too and i haven't talked about that much, cuz that gives me noooo problems.
i dunno, somehow the description thing put them together and made it look like 3.. i gotta fix that LOL.

have you checked your timing?? if you have fuel and spark and good compresion. maibe your timing belt jumped and your runing a few degrees retired. could explain why low power, but im no expert.

see if advancing the timing helps any.

alright, ive looked into the timing belt issue, and that could very well be it right there..

It hasn't been changed probably since the car was bought, it has 190K on it only. But time for a belt change anyways.

What about the valve adjustments...is that a factor as well?

No need to adj valves, hydraulic, automatic.

- You should get spark wires instead of the std hanging crap soot bags:

- TPS is worn off if not changed.

- Knock Sensor bad, try bypassing it with 0.5MOhm resistor.
