weird problem with the max

need some help on this guys. When I turn they key to start the car, nothing will happen. I do not hear the starter or anything. Its not the battery because all the lights turn on and the seatbelts go on and everything. Funny thing is this has happened before and now its happening more frequently. It would not start in park but when I manually shifted the shifter into neutral and attempted to start the car and it started. What's going on??? Anybody have this problem??? Help!!!

I'd say starter problem.

It might be the neutral start switch...

The neutral starter switch is probably bad. They are like 2 switches in one, so the section for the park position can go bad and still work in neutral.

I'd agree, easy way to tell. Tap on the starter, and try again. I'd bet that it'll start. Your brushes are starting to wear.

You have two options at this point.

1. You can have it rebuilt, around $45 to have new brushes installed
2. Go get a lifetime warranty starter from Napa or other parts place. So when this happens again, you bring it in and get another. Cost around $180.

Your Park -position is not really fully in park position - if the fault statement contains all... The sw/and or lever needs adjustment.

had the same problem, but when i turned the fan and radio off the car would start. the battery volts were low so i replaced it and everything was fine for about a week. then the problem resurfaced. I changed the alternator and everything is normal. considering your car starts in neutral i am guessing a switch may be bad. good luck.

sorry, i did not see that "move to neutral it starts" line there. yes, its probably the start switch. i had to push mye shifter all the way in park just to get the car started.

Sounds like alt grounding had been floating. Add a grounding wire between alt shroud and chassis/or engine to keep them running. The old engine block & alt supports oxidize and stop conducting electricity ruining voltage regulator and battery.
