would clogged cat kill fuel mileage

so i still have a loss of power, i did replace the cap and rotor which helped, but I drive about 12 miles to work, and in that time the gas guage actually moves down! i'm down to a quarter of a tank and only gone about 45 miles. it doesn't feel like the ignition timing is off, it really feels like the car is suffocating. so it could definitely be the cat, but would a clogged cat hurt the fuel mileage that badly? just curious, how many miles do you guys get to a full tank? I barely hit 300 last tank (18.5 gall I think) and I was doing a fair amount of hghwy driving?

How did you put in 18.5 gal the last time w/o running out of gas on the way?

i obviously didn't put a full 18.5, that brings in another question, i was below E and only put in 13.5, so there might have been a gallon or two left in the tank, but even if you guess 13 gallons, that's only 23 mpg, and with highway it should be a little higher.

Based on what others have posted about mileage, what makes you think 23mpg is that bad? What is the rated mileage from the factory?

When my gas guage is on the E mark, I have to put in about 15 gallons. Miles per gallon varies, cold weather kills mileage. I'm doing about 17 right now in surburban driving and will get less if I lead-foot it a lot. (auto trans btw)

It takes 15 miles to warm up the tranny from cold(or long idle), only after that you get the tranny lock working.

Five miles to warmup the engine when ECU supposedly lowers injection as O2 kicks in.

Knock Sensor bypass and TCU connectors cleaning got my mileage up. Last unofficial was 30mpg, highest for me ever (60mph). Short drive is definitely under 20mpg.

Gas stations might have criminally trimmed electronic gauges; what u pay might be different what u get. The measured mileage on any individual vehicle has many error sources.

so i ran the diagnosis today because i'm still having loss of power (only real noticeable after it warms up) and i got a code 55, which means everything is good....but what's the possibillity of the 02 sensor still being bad and not throwing a code? from what i've read, when you notice a lack of power (and bad fuel econ) after warm up it's most likely the 02 sensor. So I dunno... any thoughts?
