I am having a big problem with my 93 se . I just got in it to go some where and I put in in reverse, backed up, and then put it in first to pull away. That's when the trouble started. The car in now stuck in gear and and won't move. To elaborate I can't get the gear slector out of first it is stuck and won't move at all. If I let out the clutch the car stalls right away. It seems to be fighting against it self. I tried giving it some gas and letting the clutch out but it started to burn my clutch. I checked the fluid levels and they are alright. Does this situation sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone have a guess as to what is going on? Am I looking at a new clutch?

You have a transmission problem - internally it is stuck in 2 gears, 1st and probably reverse. The clutch itself is not at fault, but I hope you didn't burn it up.
Where can I look for the shift fork? Is it internal to the transmission? If not I will crawl under and chack it out.

another person screwed by borg warner... hopefully it doesn't require a major rebuild or anything. if it does, the manual trannies tend to be quite a bit cheaper to fix than the autos. (i've never had this problem before so i'm not exactly sure what's going on. i personally wouldn't be surprised it if it was caused by that stupid *** input shaft bearing... did i mention that i totally despise borg warner?)

start calling places that rebuild trannies and talking with them. They are going to be the ones that will be dealing with your tranny. Obviously, it is going to have to be taken apart at the very least, since basically all of your possible problems are internal.
I would ask around to friends, relatives, associates you trust. Tranny shops are like mechanics -- there is a wide range of quality and costs. Maybe there are some .org members in your general area that could help you find a place.

BTW. Do you have a rattling sound when in neutral? Seems to be the noise these trannies make when the input shaft bearings go ***** up

I currently have 158k on my '91 5spd. At seldom times, it takes 2 or 3 attempts to get it into 1st or reverse. This would be like once a month.
I was at the salvage yard, they have a '91 5spd with 110k miles on it, still has the tranny left over. The salvage yard charges $75 for any transmission. Do you think it would be worth it to buy this tranny, have someone rebuild it and install it when I do my clutch next month?

for $75, just pick that sucker up and keep it for if/when.
the problem you're having with it not going into gear is normal on any transmission, but depending on the symptoms it may be a different issue.
try putting it into 2nd gear first, then attempt to put it in 1 or R.
if that doesn't work, go back to neutral and let out on the clutch for a second and try again.

if you do have it rebiult try to find a shop that rebiults ONLY manual tranmissions. there is father and son shop local to me that only does manuals and rear end gears and they know there **** and have a great rep but they only do bench work which means you have to bring them the trans. the problem with most transmission shops is that 97% of the transmissions they rebiuld are autos so they dont have much knowledge on the manuals.

For my issue which is very seldom. If I try to put it in 1st or R, it won't let me put it in. Then I will release the clutch, press it again and it will let me on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. About once a month I will experience this.
Is it tough to drop out a tranny. Some guy at the junk yard said he would take $75 if he pulled it for me which I think is a little steep. If its just a matter of undoing the bolts and shifter cables, I think I could handle that.

i have a 93 se and had the same problem. the internal sleeves were worn down and the shifter would get stuck in gear but would come out with convincing. 1900 bucks to fix it.
