VG30DETT or RB26DETT a possibility?

I know it's damn near hard to convert the Maxima to RWD, but would it be possible to swap out the current engine with any of the two mentioned in the title? If so, what procedures would I have to take, what tranny would I have to use (since keeping it FWD is easier)? I know it's a crazy idea, but the Maxima I have is basically sitting in the garage and the engine has 173k miles on it, plus the tranny was rebuilt wrong. I'd like to do this as a nice little project, if it could be done.

Stillen is the ONLY place to go for the engine conversion kits

I've done both swaps before, they are hella easy. I suggest you buy the engines first, then come back here to get the instructions on how to do it.

I posted this question to see if it could actually be done, so I wouldn't be stuck with either of the engines, and not being able to swap em in. Would would have to be changed to fit either of the engines, which would you recommend as the better engine? And the question still comes up about what to do about the FWD problem...

OK, that's enough. These threads are getting old.

Without several thousand dollars and a lot of fabrication skills, you won't be able to swap these in. If you have no fabrication skills, you are probably looking at tens of thousands of dollars.

Physically, the engines you mention might fit in the engine bay, but all of the rest has to be fabricated. There is a LOT involved in any engine swap into a 3rd gen Maxima. You need a new engine, tranny, axles, wiring, ECU, motor mounts, etc. Even then, I don't think it could be done easily. There would be weeks of trial and error involved, if you could get it to work at all.

You didn't mention if your car is a VG30E or VE30DE, but either way your best bet is to just buy the right engine for you car "that's just sitting in the garage" and install it. If you do some searching you can find JDM VE engines for under $1k. VG engines can be found with around 100k for just a few hundred dollars.

If you tranny was "rebuilt wrong" you should be able to take it back to the shop and have it done right. Otherwise, you are looking at another grand to have it rebuilt correctly.

If you really want a car that you can swap an SR or RB into, buy an s13 or an s14. Even that is going to run you several thousand, but at least the car was designed for that type of engine.
