I'm leaking oil, wheres the problem?

I have an oil leak coming from the right side of engine, I'm assuming near a pulley since there is oil all over the right side of car axle, control arm, etc... I have 160,000 miles where is the most likely place the leak is coming from?

This sounds like a PITA. Is this a DIY job? If not how much $ am I gonna have to plunk down at a shop? Also is there anything else I should have replaced while having this seal replaced while my car is in the shop?

check to see were its leaing first, physicaly determin where they oil coming out of, most of the time the oilpan gasket gets craks and starts leaking.

EDIT: also valve cover gaskets get worn aswell and start leaking.

It really is not too difficult if you do it yourself and you will save yourself some money. Heck if you want you can buy an underdrive pulley and reward yourself for doing it yourself .

Basically just jack up the car, remove the tire (gives you the most space), take off the pulley bolt. Then you can just take out the old seal, put in the new one, install the pulley again, put the wheel back on and walla!

There is a chance it could be the oil pan. It is slightly more difficult but you can do it.

The sides of the oil pan are realtively dry, no oil, so I doubt its the gasket. How can I be sure where the leak is coming from?

thats what i did...mine was leaking behind the pulley...only leaks during car operation and like 5 minutes after its shut off...takes less than an hour to take off pulley, put in new seal, and hammer that new pulley on, and replace belts. but thats if you know what your doing. make sure you get the correct seal, i would go to nissan for this... I went to 3 different shops, schmucks, autozone, and 1 other..and they all had the wrong size seal for the part that its actually suppose to be, i think they cross reference it with the VG...go to nissan its a few xtra bucks on the seal
