Well I guess I have pinpointed the problem to my floaty idle. The IACV. I really do not have the time or place to take it apart and clean it (it looks like more than an hour job to me). I guess my question really is can I just set my idle a bit higher so that the rpm's don't dip past 500? As long as it isn't hurting the motor, I just want it to stop shuddring when I am sitting at a light w/ the clutch in.

how do you know its your IAC causing it

 

I know (or, rather, think I know) because it had been addressed in a previous thread that it would be the primary cause for this kind of RPM activity. Wiking has a whol walkthrough on his site about it if you're interested. It could be something else, though, as I am new to this generation maxima. Suggestions?

 

Four hex nut open/close takes about 45sec. Spraying cleaner liberally 30 sec. Done!

If u problem still is there its smtg else - or the seals are already leaking. Open, plus use five minutes adding liquid sealants (hmm. englitch is nice... whata terriblese zoo it becomes: crawling SEAL ANTS...)

U could even do that cleanup without taking tie off, one of the nicest jobs...

No. 95% probability

The first two are o-ring rubber seals, the last is paper, no need even to open it (if u dont want to check that cold bypass valve operation).
1. Pry the stepper motor off after bolts off, spray clean,
2. then the next, valve seating assy, spray clean.
3. Let dry, Close.

Std engine liquid sealant (as told, maybe not even needed)

In worst case u find some seal is broken (voila' - u problem found!) and have to use liquid sealant. U can use that sealant in all places, best would be to get rubber o-rings ---> if they are old and crimped, or cut.

Sorry, u never know what u find when hood is opened, best here was squirrels munching wire...
