87 5spd into 92 gxe?

I was wondering if it is possible to use a 5 speed form an 87 max and put it into my 92 gxe. Would i have to get a 3rd gen 5spd ecu or shift linkage or anything along those lines. Just needed to know because I need to get a new tranny and wanted a manual and theres a good running parts car i can get at a good price.

i don't think it would fit but i may be wrong. just keep lookin' around until u bump into an '89-'91 VG 5-speed. i know that the junkyards where i live there r about 5-7 maximas with a VG 5-speed tranny with all the hardware. but keep lookin' around u'll find one eventually.

the transmission will work but you still need the linkage and pedal assembly from a 3rd gen

Hey if you are going to go through the trouble of doing it. Let me give you some advice get a tranny from a 92 to 94 ve With lsd. That way if you decide to make any power later you will have the lsd to help.Just my .2 cents

Oh by the way if you do decide to go with the 87 tranny. YOu will have to get the linkage and pedel from a third gen as the chasses are diffrant.

Well i have the option between the 87 parts car or getting a 5spd from a 89-91(don't know which year) and they don't have any other 5spds. So i think i'll take the parts car so i can have an extra engine to tinker with. Thanks for the help.

*if it wasn't already mentioned* the 2nd gen tranny will bolt right up to your engine.
the 2nd shift linkage is the same iirc. i used some 2nd parts when i did my 5spd swap.

one thing i know you will need from a 3rd gen is the braket that is circled in red. the one from a 2nd gen is about 1in to short and had to get it from a 3rd gen
