$1200 for five injectors??

My 93 SE has about 149k and last summer I (by "I" I mean a mechanic) replaced my first injector. I am starting to get the slight hesitation through the power band so I suspect another injector is starting to go.

The place I get my car worked on said it would be about $1200 to get the remaining five injectors replaced. Should I have them do it or try to source the parts myself and find someone to do it on the side? It would be cheaper to source the parts but not nearly as convenient and no guarantee of work and parts. But such is life.

I want to get at least another 50k out of the car and all of the injectors will need to be replaced sometime...I know this is a common...what you say org?

TIA

I could sell you an entire used set out of my old motor for 1/2 that. But if you want to just replace the whole rail, I do have a spare set.

$1200 to replace 5 injectors is really high. The injectors themselves if new cost anywhere from $100 - $185 depending on where you get it from. Find out how much he is charging you for the parts and how much for the labor. If the cost of the parts is too high it maybe worth getting the parts yourself.

Labor for the job can be from $150 - $300, depending on your relationship with your mechanic and how cheap/expensive he is. More than $300 for the job I would say is too much IMHO.

have you tested your coil packs, as well? I don't think it's that common for VE engines to have a bunch of injectors crap out, but it is more common for the coil packs to go bad when you get into the mid 100k mile range. There is a huge thread somewhere about hesitation, stalling and bucking in VEs, most of which is caused by coil packs.

I don't know if this is your problem, Just something to think about.

Chris. How is one coil pack going to cause the hesitation most are experiencing? In my case, it feels like the car is turning completely off then on. If one pack was bad, it wouldn't do this. If 3 packs were back, I'd suspect the car to run bad (to some degree) most of the time.

I'm not sure if Minn has it or not, but do they offer a Ethanol fuel there? Usually it's put into the 89 octane. That stuff is bad news for our injectors. I've lost 2 injectors to it so far, and possibly have 2 more going from the stuff. If you see it around, stay away from it.

Mine had one bad coil pack. My car would almost completely die at WOT. (Ask Shawn about this). My injectors were fine. After I replaced ONE COIL pack, it totally stopped. It was a rear coil pack that looked brand new. Obviously something on the inside was fried.

I talked with a Nissan Tech that was on this board before and he says that a bad coil pack (or the wrong spark plugs) will cause spikes in the system and fluck everything up by shutting down the ECU for a split second. I am not sure exactly how it does this, but he said it won't throw codes, either.

Here is a quote from the PM I saved (when I thought it was a bad Cam Sensor)

"They make the computer shut down for a second. The check engine light wont come on and no codes will be set, but the problem is there. I haven't seen too many cam sensors go bad, but i'll look into it for you and let you know."

He isn't on the board anymore, because I tried to ask him some more questions a few months later.

I said in my other post that the coil packs were a common problem (most people that had the hesitation/stalling/bucking) corrected it with new coil packs, but there are lots of other possibilities. Bad injectors, bad MAF, bad MAF connection, bad Cam Sensor, bad ingnition module, bad ECU, bad TPS or any number of connections.

$1200 for injectors is INSANE!!!
DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR CAR THERE AGAIN!

Injectors are $105 each from the dealer, and o-rings are $2 each for both.. You'll need an intake manifold gasket and a couple other small things, but that puts part cost from the dealer at $650. Labor will be roughly 3 hours- I can do it in less than 2, but give them extra time to do a good job.
Even at dealer prices of $90/hour, they're still screwing you by about $300...

Bought them from internetautomar(t) for $690 for 6 injectors. I replaced them myself, it took about 3 weeks. I only worked on the weekends and I had to get the parts in because Nissan didn't have them. My car runs great with the new injectors.

We sure do...have to support the local ag. community....Right now it is required to be at 10% and they are working on legislation to bump it to 15%. I didn't realize that something like that could have a bad effect on my injectors.

There are a few stations around that will have an ethanol free pump for snowmobiles and lawnmowers, I should try to use that one more from now on. Thanks.

Actually i think they are trying to bump it to 20%, which is even worse and will void all new car warranties if you use it

If you can afford the $$$ new ones are the best for the long run. If you need a quick fix to sell it then cut your cost. Go with internetautomart, he has good stuff and good prices. Keep the $$ in the "family" on this forum if you can
