Cup Holder Update

Someone posted a thread earlier about cupholders, well I ordered a Saab/Taurus DIN Cupholder from ebay for like 20 with shipping and it went right in, no problem. It is a little tight to close because its longer but it's in and no more spilled sodie-pops!

I was thinking about buying one of those, but I was wondering just how big they are? Do they fit a 20oz bottle of pop? i suppose i can just carve out the middle, but, i was curious. thanks.

did you have to drill new screws into the cupholder to fit into the stock radio bracket??
and yes that is a sensor for your ACC.

The new cupholder fits nice and tight in the bracket without any screws. It has a clip on it that just holds it in place.

Used to have one of these installed in my car. One of the drawers broke and wouldn't shut so I trashed it and got the nissan fold down door compartment and I like it much better. The cup holders worked ok, but really wouldn't hold anything bigger than a small bottle of water or a red bull. Plus if you had two drinks in there it would completely block the radio.

One thing I don't like about these: the condensation off of a cold drink drips all over the place, and so far no 20 Oz. bottle I've tried has been able to fit. Overall I'm happy with it though.

Do you have to remove the entire dash to replace the cupholder or just remove the old cupholder?

I just bought the Saab cupholder/coin tray, but no four holes in my Max to punch the old one out.

I'm pretty sure the cup holder is the only part of a taurus that isn't garbage, and that's only because it fits our rides!

Anyone know where the link for installing the Taurus/Saab cupholder is? Can't find it anymore.

What a great thread. I just happen to be selling a Mercury Sable. Doesn't look like it will be sold with a cup/coin holder.

I'll document and take pictures as needed, then share them here when I do.

Check out www.4dsc.com there are a few how to's there that will show you how to get the center trim off, after that a trained monkey can switch the drawer for the ford thingie, just a few screws. If your smart enough to find this place, chances are your more than capable enough to do it.

Here's how you do it. Take off the the trim. Unscrew double DIN, unscrew old cup holder. Slide in new cup holder, no screws needed (for mine anyway). Jam that puppy in (it requires force, theres a lot of wires and crap back there). Screw in DIN, put back trim. Enjoy cup holder goodness!

I have installed two of these before. If it doesnt fit, take a hack saw and cut off the little piece that sticks out the back. I had to do this when installing in my 93, but it fit fine without it in my 90. Also I can get these for about $8 a piece from a local junkyard if anyone wants any.

For $8 + shipping, this might become the next mod that follows an intake . I'll be interested if you can get it.

with the taurus cupholders, there is a button on the front of the tray for the cup tray and change tray as well. they are similar to spring loaded, so they pop out back towards the driver. too bad it's a horrible place to keep liquids, directly in front of the stereo.

my friends family are italian car enthusiasts and they have the best saying "the only cup holder in our car is the passenger." But Joe that e-brake and console is the best thing ever, I've been using that as my cup holder since day 1. holds 28oz cups perfectly........

hehe, yep. i thought i was the only one. fits any drive-thru cup out there, or plastic bottles

too bad glass cups/bottles won't fit, and theres a good chance of anything u put there tipping over, or spilling if u dont have a cover on it

but im still happy with the "e-brake" cup holder. i once stuffed 2 mcdonalds regular sized cups in there, and it held up pretty well

i have had anything spill on me yet so I think that I'm going to wait on something as trivial as new cup holders.

anyone try fitting a single cup holder where the ash tray is? I'm thinking about trying it, since the previous owner cut out the ash tray mount. I think I'm gonna hit up the junk yard and look around for something I can use. I'll keep you all posted if I attempt this.

Throw me an offer. Here are some pictures. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I love this FORD warning
http://images.snapfish.com/34464%3C9...A2954543ot1lsi

I will clean these up by the way. Also for those of you wondering the rectangle pocket next to the coin holders is roughly the size of a credit card and I can put my pioneer credit card remote in there with a little bit extra room.
