leaking water pump on VE.

my pump recently began leaking....the leak is pretty bad....almost a constant run......I noticed the pully is pretty loose.......I dont have the funds to fix it just yet but its the only car i have, so im woundering if theres anything i can do to keep it going besides adding coolant..until Im able to properly fix it.

Thanks

if the pulley is loose, then you are risking major damage by driving it.

u just have to keep adding coolant or just dont drive the car
the pump cost around 50-100 dollars and is a b*tch to change but is very possible for the DIYer takes a good afternoon if you plan ahead and get all the tools ahead of time youll save ur self a few trips and time
when ur ready to do the pump pm and ill walk you through it i just did it a few weeks ago

I think this may be my problem now,i noticed a leak over there today that I thoguht might be a head gasket. The headgasket thing had me baffled becasue there is no coolant in my exhaist or in the oil at all.

My waterpump area is leaking though.what happened to yours harvs94max the seal go on the front?

it was the pulley that was loose and i think it made the seal on the shaft go bad and it was leaking out of the little hole
when i took it out i could spin it freely like a top and the pulley had play but the new one had a nice smooth rotation

You need a service manual of some kind first that covers the VE engine. The haynes manual does NOT cover the VE but the chilton does. (FSM can be expensive) Scratch up a hundered dollars or so and a friend thats good with wrenches. It is a striaght forward job, time consuming but can be done in the driveway in 6-8 hours.
It is best to purchase the pump from the jobber on this site because Brian knows which pump you need. Auto part stores will sell-order the wrong one everytime.
If you keep driving it, you will, are, overheating the engine, and you will be in a world of SHEIT.
Head gasket job is not easy and parts are hard to get and costly.
Been there, done that.

I attempted to change the pump my self last time it went out a few yesrs ago....I ended up not being able to get it out of there after I had unbolted it & all......but since then ive learned theres a few tricks such as unbolting a the trans mount.....or jacking up the motor.....my question is will i be able to gain enof space to install the new one without screwin up the gasket/sealer.

Thanks

When you go to change the water pump, you might as well replace the front crank oil seal. It is a small cheap piece of plastic that is one of the typical places your car will eventually leak oil.

a stitch in time...
