Good alternator Source

So, I find it necessary (again) to replace my alternator. Anyone recommend a good source? SchucksKragen has it for $110 with lifetime warantee, but it is reman, and I hear reliability is spotty. On the other hand, internetautomart has it new for $175. However, if that fails for some weird reason, or (much more likely) I mess up due to inexperience, I am out $175. Suggestions?

I hate to say it, but NAPA's Lifetime. It's expensive, but when it does go out... a long time from now. Just take it back in with your receipt and get a new one... no charge.

yeah i have the autozone remanufactured on my old VG. The voltage regular crapped out on the first one but the free replacement (lifetime warranty) has been running strong the past year.

If you have the money, just get a new one with a lifetime warrenty. It will save you trouble in the long run. But I must say, I have been driving around with a rebuilt alternator for almost 2 years now without any problems. I got it for $120 installed with a 6 month warrenty.

There's is a cheaper way to go... Napa Lifetime runs around $240. Find a local shop that rebuilds them. Most shops offer a year to 3 year warranty for their work... But personally, the Lifetime is the way to go. A lot less down time.

if it were to fail I'd warranty it.

Ahh, awesome :-)

Looks like I'll have to be scraping together $175.

Dunno, never gave it much thought.
I warranty usually for 1-2 years.
but I don't get many returns, so if life makes you feel better I'll cover it for life
