It's me again. When i rev my engine or release the pedal, theres a sound, kinda like a knock, but lighter....like cards on a bike spoke....but not faint...pretty loud. But only when i first give it gas, or release the pedal...now when im driving, it always does it in the low RPM range, sometimes all the way through the gear. Maybe the timing belt needs tensioning? sounds like somethings slack, and only makes the noise while its slack, stops when it tightens up? i dont know, if you guys dont have a clue what im talking about, i could record it and send the sound?

 

92 Maxima SE does not have a belt, it is a chain and we all know how long chains last.

It could be VTCs or exhaust studs you are hearing.

 

On VG30E:

The belt tension is easily to be checked: open the upper cover three nuts, bend the cover ajar and press the belt midpoint with large screwdriver or smtg. Should go down 12-15mm =½inch with some force (by nissan FSM).

Mine blk belt is tighter, 5-8mm - pressing by 10 kg/20lbs force.
