I've heard some talk on other threads about adding these ignition systems to dramatically increase low end power. Has anybody ever dealt with this product before?

 

I purchased a Jacobs system about six months ago and I've been pretty happy with the results. I think mostly I'm getting better MPG. I went from getting close to 400 miles to tank to close to 450 miles per tank. As far as power goes its hard to say. I've never actually raced my car on a track or against others. However when going up a hill I've noticed the car does not shift as much so I have to agree that it does help the power.

you get 400 to the tank?? I only hit about 300. What's up with my car?

 

If I'm on the freeway on a long trip it is very easy for me to push 450 miles per tank. I'f I ran it dry I possibly might have another ten miles in her also but I got sick of running out of gas in my old car (1972 Ranchero 351 Cleveland, that thing rocked! Cried the day my dad made me sell the thing...) Like I said before the Jacobs system has probably increased my range by about 50 miles per tank which is no small feat. Something that actually does increase mileage.

 

How much does this thing cost? What kind of install does it involve?

 

I bought mine when Jacobs was going getting rid of last years and bringing in the new. Total I think I paid around 400+ for the package which was around 150 off of the normal price for the pro street package. As far as installation it took about 3 hours to do it. Not really because it was hard but because there is no room in the compartment. We eventually took out the radiator overflow plastic thing thats in the left front of the compartment. Both the computer module and ignition module fit there with a little bit of work. The problem we came up with was one of the supplied cables that goes on the coil (I think thats what the thing was called) was a different style then provided. It took a few auto shops to locate the right wire. The proccess isn't very complicated just a little time consumming.

 

Did you see any real performance gains?

 

 

I've had mine for over a year now, paid only $370 total. It's advertised now for $324. The plugs are gaped at like 60 thousandths, if I remember correctly. They don't suggest using anything other than NGK and I think Autolite. Definately no fancy plugs they said, the ecu won't read the plug right before it fires. They sent me the wrong wires too for the secondary trigger and coil. I called, sent me wrong set again, called, finally got the right set. It took me about 30-45 minutes to install. Installed the ecu beside the puke jug, so I didn't have to remove it. I was going to hook it up as the "race" option wiring, but now with the Z going in, I'll have to wait till I get my car back. They say that the only problem hooking it up as race is that the cars computer may cause the "check engine" light to come on. My arguement is if our cars can't read if the coil is bad, then why would it read check engine by bypassing the oem coil? It shouldn't, but I've not tried yet to find out. Why doesn't someone try that and let us know?
