Question about engine swap

I am looking to pick up a used VE for my max, but according to the JDM ve swap directions Sticky, if the doner engine is out of an automagic and goin into a manual then I must swap the intake plennum from my manual to it to make it work. The guy at the yard that has the engine told me that it wouldnt matter on this engine if it were out of an auto or not. He said that some auto and manual engines have different pilot bearings, but this one wasnt different between auto to manual. This is going to be a US spec SE max engine going into a US spec SE max. Does the plennum matter only for the JDM or is it all VEs. Is this guy right or do I actually have to swap this part???? Thanks

Auto intake = no dual stage intake like the 5-sp. It will work with the 5-sp but you want the 5-sp manifold
jdm ve might have the 5-sp manifold but I doubt it.

The guy at the yard is a tard.

Swap intake manifolds. The auto version did not have variable intake, but the manual version does. You can drive fine without the VI, but you will lose torque and hp.

You'll also have to change the pilot bushing out on it, but it's no big deal. the crankshaft is the same, but there's a large bushing crammed into the end for the auto versions. you have to pull that guy out. best way I've found to do it is use a hacksaw to cut about 6 slots in it (like you'd cut a pie), then use a hammer and chisel to beat it out.
I broke two pilot bushing pullers trying to get it out before just doing it that way.

I used one leg of a puller. Wedged one side under the lip and whacked with a hammer. 30 sec and it was out.

Awsome!! Thanks a lot everybody. ORG to the rescue yet again.

But that pilot bushing on the auto isn't really a big deal to take care of??

the best way I found to do that was. Take A DEEP WALL socket that is about the same size as the whole and fill the socket with grease and the whole in the pilot bushing . Then insert a short exstenion into the socket. and give it a good firm tap and the grease will push the bushing out.

We tried the grease thing but the bushing was in there too tight. We used one leg of the pulley puller and tapped it with a hammer moving it around and working it out.
