super bad gas mileage

just filled up my tank and I got a whopping 10.3774 MPG!
my car is bone stock, and 95% original.
I'm gonna stop by radio shack and pick up a resistor to test the knock and see if that helps my mileage (I already run 93 octane, and haven't touched my timing. I should be ok for 1 tank)
My camaro beats the crap out of this thing for mileage!
good thing summer is coming.
T-tops off, radio up. 274lbs of torque @ 2400 rpm

air filter is about 2 months old.
plugs were still good when last checked.
only 1 injector is still original (2 new 3 remans <- probably the problem)
new CV shafts (month or so ago) along with the o2.
I'll know more next tank, I'm gonna test the knock with a bypass.
that and I won't be hammering it as bad (got 2 speeding tickets last tank ) I hope

Check your temp sensor contacts for corossion.
Test the resistance of all injectors, personally I just replaced all of them (my idea of a tune up ).
Test transistor pack.
Old ignition coils? replace them all........(if you intend to keep your car).
Fuel filter?
Ignition timming.
MAFS is known to have bad contacts. Personally I chopped mine off and made new ones (will soon be soldering them on).
Vacuum leak?

Maxima filler-tube does not make siphoning possible, ie. not interautomarts problem.

Ahh. Mr. Interautomart, Check the small gas hose thats along with the filler neck for cracks etc. Its all the way at the bottom near the brakes.

I've been getting 21-24 mpg, depending on driving. So there is no reason you shouldn't be up there.

I changed my o2 sensor and i didn't see a noticable change

.......but for some reason, probably like 34 months after I changed it, I just have started getting a little bit better at around 275mpg

Theres a rocking yearly tax 500-1000$ (+100-200$ for all) to cool u down. Only Wi slaves Kings know what nationalissimus socialissimus EUFreedoom is like.

wow, your bad mileage is depressing. I took mine out of town on a 200 mile trip Friday night for the first time. I didn't know what to expect, but was hoping for mpg in the upper 20's at least. My conditions were good, level road, no wind, mild temps. On the trip there, I drove 151.8 miles after filling up and went directly to the gas station once I arrived to get true read on the mileage. I was amazed that I couldn't get more than 4 gallons in the tank. By my calculations, that's nearly 38mpg. I was pleased.

Driving the car around the city for about 200 miles, I only averaged 20mpg, and on the way home there was a stiff crosswind, and I had the AC on. That trip averaged 27.5mpg. So, the mileage can really vary a lot with them it seems.

I'm also finding that the fuel gauge reads really wierd. For example, when it's sitting dead on the 1/2 tank mark, I can't put more than 5 gallons in. Anyone else's read like this?

I could easily deal with a small tax like that.
Diesels get 2x the mileage that gas cars do.
so that tax is easily buried by the savings on gas.

Filling: 1-2 gallon difference on what angle the car sits. The measured mileage is not exact. Some stations cheat u. The calc has to be average on many fillings...No way real 38mpg.
My filled tank is always at 3/4 mark. Empty has still 5-6 gal.

Interneautomator "I could easily deal with a small tax like that."
...needs 10-15k minimun per year to get even. Diesels cost more to buy, go buy new pump parts! In the end the difference is small. If u drive 50k per year, its real money
I have had half cars diesels, I love the torq. But the poor performance: any hayhathonda makes fun of u... nothanks; although newest diesels are quite fa$t... My max current condition is above 95% of all pop; thats nice. I can decide the position where I want to drive in a long line; mostly two lane roads around.

i guess things are a bit different there then in israel.
diesel in israel costs less than gas. so the cost savings are very quickly realized.
even if the price of gas and diesel were the same, the cost benefit is there.
and maintenance costs of a diesel vs a gas motor are roughly equal.

Yes, the whole game is gvmt tax game: maximized! Only gvmt can know what is best for the ant worker. And what is left from left gvmt, stealerships take care: diesel part prices are what they decide... no real competition. Even aftermarket shops have pacts what to sell for maxima.

hey I'm also having mileage problems. I filled up, but didn't notice until I got home (1-2 miles) the gauge was at 3/4. Then today its at about 1/2, even though I didn't go that far, unsure of miles put on though. I recently had to change my fuel/brake lines, but I haven't noticed any gas smells. I have cardboard under it now to see if it is leaking anything.
Any ideas?

if you're losing it that fast, you gotta have a leak.

I forgot to mention when I filled up, the tank depressurized when I took the cap off, as well as when I just got home about an hour ago. Not positive, but I think that indicates either no or a very small leak. I plan to check it again before I start it next (after its sat a while). I hope its just a bad connection i need to tighten...

just wondering if this is along the lines of your bad gas mileage......

i dont get great milage, but its good (no as low as 13 butnot as high as 275 lol). gotta do a check this tank to find out for sure what it is, but i get this black crap all up on my muffler. I assume its running rich, so would this account for bad gas mileage....and if so should a tune up be in order?

I would start by changing the water temp sensor. It's dirt cheap and it's a common problem.

Are the VE's supposed to get better mileage than the VG's?

its weird... sometimes i will get 270'ish (17mpg) on a tank driving mostly highway (I usually drive above 80mph tho), and other times (when my foot is heavy around the city), i will get 220 (14mpg)

i gave the car a tuneup during september, my tires are at the pressure in the owners manual, I realise that there is no way in hell i am getting the 19/26 that is posted because i am using regular gas, its an old car, and i drive kinda aggressively.

my point: watch how you drive. if you keep it on power (i have a AT) and rev it to 3000-3500 rpm on most city corners and bring it over 4000 to pass people on the highways, your mileage will not be good.

Also going too fast on the hwy will hurt you also. when i am doing 85-95mph, my car is usually flirting w/ 3krpm

we'll see what happens, my knock sensor registered as non-existant when I tested for it. so I popped in a resistor for the moment and I'm running 93 octane with stock timing so I should be ok for a short term while I get the funds together to have it replaced.
hoefully that will help my mileage a bit, the car definately revs more freely now.
