When replacing radiator hoses/thermostat?

I picked up the radiator hoses and thermostat from nissan today during lunch hour. I want to know if I can replace my upper radiator hose when the engine is cold without spilling a bunch of coolant? Or would the coolant be settled by the time its cooled down? Do I need RTV sealant when replacing my thermostat also?

when you replace the hose, coolant should spill out if you haven't drained the system.
unless of course you're low on coolant to begin with

Well, I always try to keep some RTV around, cause its really handy stuff, I would let you use some, however all mine is at home. so i would say pick some up, its like what 3 bux for a tube?

you will need some RTV silicone for the thermostat gasket. Some also say to use a dab to keep the thermostat needle facing up while installing.
