What Is Fair?

I took my car to this body shop to get my damage fixed from my accident and a few extra things last month. I dropped it off on the 25th of Feb. The guy estimated that he would need about 5 days to get the work done. He was replacing the quarter pannel, shaving the trunk and painting the whole car. So far he has given me about 6 other dates as to when he would be finished. I demanded that he give me a car to use about 10 days ago since he was making little to no progress. now the original price was $1500 for everything. But he said the paint i picked out was more expensive than he planned for and that his worker needed extra to shave the trunk so it moved up to $1800. That was about 15 days ago. He also broke my back window that had 35% tint on it (which he said he is replacing), but i drove past the shop one rainy night and my car was in the gate getting rained in. I complained and he said they covered it the next day and put it in the garage.

Basically this dude has put me through hell. He has never called me to tell me that my car wouldn't be ready, ive had to go by to ask how it is coming. I saw the car from a distance and it is all painted i dont know what they are doing now.Im wondering if im entitled to some type of discount since he has taken 20 days longer than he originally told me. some days he wasn't even working on my car it was just sitting there. For the first week all they did was cut off my bad quarter. Any one have any suggestions as to how i should approach this?

Pretty hard to paint the whole car in 5 days. But he shouldn't have quoted you 5 days

tell him you are unhappy and you think a price negotiation is in order. If he will not reason with you, report him to the better business bureau. Besides that, I'm not sure there is anything you can do.

If you haven't payed him, don't. Free paint job for all your anguish.

i agree, or at least write him a check for the agreed price and take your car. sorry to hear that man..funny, just today i replaced my smashed bumper with a black one and soon going to add a black hood from the same car the bumper came off of...my car's starting to look like yours...before your new paint job of course. when i finally get everything settled with the insurance, i'll explain my situation more. i will say i'm satisfied with the worst case scenerio though it doesn't seem like you got the quote in writing which sucks...good luck. like i said, if it were me, i'd toss a check on their desk and get in your car and drive off.
