Do they?

For the 3rd Generation they had the J30. Combination of the Infinity and Maxima as you would know it. Did not come with a 5-speed option.

For the 4th generation they had the Cefiro. Mainly the 2.0 and 2.5 VQ motors and a small number of the 3.0 VQs. There is a 5-speed option but very hard to find.

For the 5th Gen I think they use the 2.5 Direct Injection motor. Gives the same output as the 3.0. Dunno about options. My Japanese is not very good.

Umm... no..

Japan had the same model 3rd gen we had. The I30 wasn't released until 95, and when it was it's called the Cefiro. Before 4th gen like Cefiro, the Cefiro was RWD and powered by the RB20DET engine.

The Japanese version of the Maxima is called the Cefiro, and is pretty much an I-30 in appearance.

Re: Re: Do they?

In '92 a Nissan Infinity J30 was produced and was RWD. What I meant to say was the trim specifications of the 3rd Gen Japanese market Maximas were similar to those found in Infinity and the Maxima.

The Cefiro (Prior to 4th Gen) was powered by the RB25DE also.

The J30 was a car built off the 300ZX 2+2 chassis. It was RWD and used the N/A Z's VG30DE engine. The Japanese 3rd gen Maxima looked just like it did here. The Australian spec Max's are Japanese spec. Nissan only ships used cars over and a select few new cars. The Cefiro(prior to that I30 thing) was powered by a RB20DET, not the RB25DE. So in short, they looked like our cars, but with a bunch of JDM spec stuff(H4 headlights, headlight washers, rear fog lights, etc..)

I'm sorry but I just have to disagree

The old Cefiro came with the RB20, the RB20DET and the RB25DE.
This site shows the RB20DET and the RB25DE listed for the Cefiro. I know the Cefiro also came in 2.0L S6 so that may have been the RB20 rather than the RB20DE.

The Japanese import 3rd Gens I've come across differ little visually from any other countries and have been all VG/Auto's. Also really 'bare bones' with cloth interior, no spoiler etc. Yet to see an optioned up jp-spec.

Mike, when you say "Nissan only ships used cars over and a select few new cars" which market are we talking about? No Ex-JDM used vehicles have ever been shipped and sold through Nissans Aust. dealer network.

Interesting ..

In NZ we get the opposite. The ones we get are the fully loaded version with very few bare bones models.

Brent.

J30

Three little letters in Nissandom that cause so much
confusion I'll see if I can clear it up. 89-94 Maxima's
have the chassis designation of J30 this is not to be
confused with the J30 Infiniti which has nothing in
common with a 3rd gen Max (J30) or any Max for that
matter but is like a 4 door 300ZX (Z32). Hope that helps.

I can see the light now ...

If that is what you mean by one piece then I have not seen a 3rd Gen (ex-Japan)with these. All have a separate headlight and corner lamp setup to the best of my knowledge.

lol. I think you are right. The 4th gens take the Cefiro one piece headlight/corners and they look sweet. I was hoping maybe the Maxima had the same thing available It would mean it'd be a projector too, our headlamps suck for light!
