I have just had my 4'th power window die on my Maxima. It is supposed to be the nylon bushing on the regulator that wears out over time. At $200 a pop this gets old fast. Is this going to be a continueing problem? Have others had this problem?

Thanks,

Dave

$200 a pop? uhhhhh, new regulators are $60-80 from any dealer. A window shop shouldn't charge more than about $30 to change one. They take about 10 minutes for me to change one..

But yes, they're a VERY common problem. Since our cars were produced, nissan changed the design slightly, using stronger parts in the new models that shouldn't break again.

If you want excellent prices on them and someone who knows what they're talking about, call courtesy Nissan. 1-800-527-1909.

those damn windows...

I've already had to fix 2..at roughly $175 each, both on the right sides. That was done by a guy I know who charged $50 for labor which included him coming to my house to do it, the part he got from don davis nissan from where I live for $125. The rear window wouldn't roll up, and the front went down on it's own without touching anything!

you got screwed on parts. you can buy TWO regulators for the price you paid for those.
They're $55 and $65 for front/rear through courtesy nissan, and as I said before, take about 10-60 minutes to install, depending on experience.

I would say the car -- I would say the Mech. My reg. broke and I took the door appart. Price the part at Nissan and then took it to my independent VW mech. and he charge for parts and labor what Nissan wanted just for parts. I think it was $90. I had to put back on the interior panel. One problem with the design is the motor can still work against a window that all the way up or down. Making lots of stress on the nylon reel which beaks. Sould of had a switch to turn the motor off. So when the windows up or down -- take your fingers off the botton and keep the kids away from the switch - use the lock out.

If a mech. can take the door apart., remove the tangle cable and regulator, install the new reg. and door panel in 30 mins., I'm really impressed.

Re: those damn windows...

It sounds like you are buying the entire regulator assembly. You can buy the regulator without the electric motor for about $67 at Nissan. I replace mine in 20 minutes.

like Matt said, I think it can be done in 10-15 min if you've done it before and know what you're doing

first time, it'll probably be less than an hour
I have instructions on my site (click link below) in the how to section with pictures of how to remove the regulator

When I tried to buy it, the unit with the motor was cheaper with discount than without the motor with no discount avail. What gives. He just said that's the way they sell them. I'll be checking out the instructions site by Craig.
