Cheap mods + Low budget = low power

But hey , i am sure there is some way to get some cheap power out of my new car .

For those who ignore it ( everyone , in fact ) i re-bought another Maxima , after buying 2 GM in the same year . I bought a 1994 GXE , with 195000 km , one rust spot , and the cleanest engine i ever saw after 195000 km .

Car runs very well , just changed the brakes on 4 wheels ( rotors + pads ) , changed the oil . Now i need summer tires ( to replace the winter ones ) . I got some ideas for mods , but being very conservative in my style , new mag wheels ( maybe ) and tinted windows are the only choices in my mind . I don't got a very high budget , but i would like to take some power out of my VG30E , without a big noisy muffler , or some crap like that . I want to know if there is something very effective for the price ( i got some though about the Y-pipe ) .

Anyway if you can just tell me your ideas , or where you started , or what you think about that , well , tell me . Thank you !

Boy, I wish I had started off with a low budget. I've got about $3000 in aftermarket parts alone. I'm not going to mention the upkeep and parts bill...

Good spot to start is either modifiying the airbox, or putting a cone filter in it's place. You could get the intakes from Cattman, or stillen. but they seem a little waste for the money.

I think Mr. Gone has a a couple of mandrel bent intakes left. You can see what it looks like on my cardomain site. It's on the 2nd page, at the bottom. All it requires is a 3" hose and a clamp to attach to the MAF. You can get a adaptor plate for a cone filter from ebay, or use the flange inside the airbox. It just has to be trimmed down a little. $15 at a local machine shop.

Y-pipe is a good investment. And if you don't want a really loud muffler, you might want to keep the stock muffler on.

NGK Wires with NGK copper plugs. And that's about the most fun you can have without making a the bill too big, or tearing apart the motor.

Surely t here is some fifty horses lazily muching hay, that u have to pay.

Last feelings level tuneup was exhaust gnd wire: if feelings count, that helped a lot. ...next have to check wiring diag if there is any possibility to hlp in real life...

Check out swiss cheese 'turbo', DIY, priceless! ...and some more. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/2

Just love the swiss cheese turbo. Nice sleek sleeper design... but I like the show off of my 1/2 ricer intake...

Of course it won't be like that for much longer. I hope to have the shaker hoodscoop done before december. If not, it'll be next year's tax return. depends upon what the work load is like at... well work.

Wiking has a nice few power restorers. Don't mind how he types... I still think he's on that peace pipe tobacco if you ask me...

Today I clocked 7,5s 0-60mph(0-100kmh) with all the zeropenny mods (not all seen). Now I am hoaxing ECU to give horses some more injection on full throttle, hmm niceee with VG auto. Poor tranny...

The exhaust gnd cleanup seems to be ??? feelings; at least no schema supports the idea that O2 is grounded to exhaust... What it will 0-60 be when I get my rEAL CAI (=TB heating closeoff valve) and the ten horses promised by somebdy with the TB plasTics.

Piping? ...U dont know the freezink situation on my sailboat, on the frozen Gulf of Bothnia...

Nor would I want to... SD is cold enough for me. I'm originally from TN, where it's nice and warm during the winter, and HOT and humid during the summer. You can keep your cold. And your piping...

after adding a cone filter and midpipe a la Mr. Gone, i noticed more torque gains rather than horsepower on my vg. throttle response and quickness was more noticeable. the only thing that i can think of that would free up more hp would be - a. 5sp swap if you have auto b. lightened flywheel c. underdrive crank pulley that's lighter than stock. manual trans allows you to reach peak hp easier, and the lighter flywheel and pulley free up energy used to rotate extra mass. there are certainly more things that you can do to add hp, but if you're on any kind of budget, these mods are all you need to worry about right now.

Under belly, exhaust & O2 grounding. If wire connector crimps are oxidized, DIY new wire (black arrow). Install connectors on other sides, get more direct grounding (white arrow). ...clean, add bit of connector grease, tighten.
