I had a 727 in a Dodge that I picked up for free. It had been parked for two years. I just kept shifting and revving to make the car move back and forth 5-10 ft. About 15 minutes later... walah! Presto, fixo. Not sure if the valves/clutches had 'dried out' or what, but it worked. My theory is the fluid drained out of everything and it took some priming to get the hydraulics to work again. Not a big trans guy. Anywho, spend a little time and try it out. What do you have to lose?

Edit: Transmission fluid was topped off. Car ran like a raped ape until I sold it.

Check fluid, drive it a bit, when they sit that long, the torque converters drain out as far as they can, and things tend to stick, too.
change the fluid while it's all at the bottom, you'll scare yourself s#!tless with the mess in the bottom of the pan (lots of stuff suspends in tranny fluid, but settles out after a year or so). My '89 bonneville sat quite a while before I got it, and i changed the fluid before we fired up the engine (had to re-build, so while we were down there fixing stuff anyways...), it was gross; so much metal and black junk down there. tranny ran perfectly (and the engine too) until it wouldn't start at -22f one morning.
