92 GXE vs 04 Mini

I got into a heated debate with someone where I work, and SHE claims that she can take me with her 04 Mini Cooper A/T. I have a completely stock 92 GXE A/T and I think I can take her, maybe not off the line but definatly after a little race. I looked up that car and it only has 115 HP, and it's quite a heavy little car (2800lbs???) What do you guys think? Now that I'm thinkin about it once I fix my leaky injectors I'm pretty sure I can take her off the line!

Dude its a mini and all, not even a supercharged one....Pick on one of those. I had some ******* throw a rev in a mini-s. 160 horse power at the time I think, so when the light turned green (on a 2 lane left turn lane) we got on it and with the konis and eibachs I lit up the inside wheel and had to correct a small slide. the lane turned into 1 lane maybe 8-10 carlengths ahead and we were door to door. He let off. Very very close obviously, till I lost him through a canyon. All this while me and my girl were eating ( I was holding) a mcflurry. Not condoning racing, but hey atleast make it fair if u do. Dunno if he had auto or not. I do, and ypipe, jwt popcharger, and thats it for engine crap at the time.

Ummm in a pretty stock under powered car ( GXE ) and a light weight BWM product, I don't like your chances. Better bet is if you win she sleeps with you, and if you loose you sleep with her. ya I went for the cheap laugh, so what?

I'd be laughin at that too.

As for weight, I read that car is like 2800lbs (1270kg for all you metric fools out there )and since I have 45 extra horses, I think that should compensate. I don't race though, this was all hypotheticle. I can't risk destroying my 500+ mile a week car on the LIE!

You guys wanna sleep with her? Go head!:

The race would be close. Car-stats.com says the mini will go 16.6 sec in 1/4. There was no maxima GXE for 3rd gen on there but an 89 se went 16.9 (maybe was actually GXE) while and 92 went 15.7. A whole second off for 30 hp seems wrong too though plus who knows what the drivers were like.

with comparable HPs, i think u can beat her easy with a little skill... rev to 2000rpm in neutral, when the light goes green pop it to D and floor it then let the VG do its magic

i did that quite a lot of times, i've never changed tranny fluid in my 1.5 year of ownership, and the tranny still ain't blowing up..

Okay, some people seem to be forgeting something important here... Power to weight ratio. I've beaten a 03 Mini with my VG 5-spd. But it was interesting race. The fact my Max was modded was the only reason I won.

115hp vs 160hp is an easy comparison... but add weight into it. 115hp @ 2800 lbs vs 160hp @ 3500 lbs. Also there's a lot more to think about... tire conditions, tranny conditions, suspension conditions. That newer suspension might be all she needs to keep the tires on the ground and smoke you.

You just can't compare HP ratings. I'll give good example here, and before I answer it I want to see what everyone thinks.

In a 1/4 mile drag... what would win Ferrari Enzo vs McLaren F1?

3500 lbs sounds a little high though. According to MSN autos, a 92-94 gxe weighs 3129 lbs, a 90-91 gxe weighs 3086 lbs, and an 89 gxe weighs 3153 lbs. I never heard before that the gxe's weight varied from year to year, but then again that's just what MSN says so i don't know. Check it out-

Take a little peekie inside your driver's door. It list the vehicle's weight. I could be wrong... I'm no where near my Max right now.

Yeah it only lists the car's gross vehicle weight rating on the door, i was talking about curb weight though.

Take it down to the scales and find out. Of course everyone's weight will be different.

Haha, yep that's the only way to really find out. That's the problem though the numbers vary depending on the source.

The worst part is, weight can easily be changed to factors such as wind... I was weighing my stuff during a move. And was at the scale, the poor guy running it had a hard time getting an accurate reading. It kept changing as the wind blew on the truck.

Even if you were looking at just the weight to power ratio the maxima is about 21.875lbs per horse of power and the mini is about 24.35lbs per horse. technically speaking the maxima weighs less. i will put my money on the maxima. and the extra power that the maxima carries will cover for the tires tranny etc. hopefully!!! And i thought that the GXEs for the 89 to 94 period wher the same 160hp and the SEs were the 190hps. I just read some say that the extra 30hp or some thing. just wanted to clarify that small issue. thaks

Nope... the SE's from 92-94 all came with the VE engine, 89-91 VG. All years of GXE have the VG
