Distributor Cap dilemma

My "New" Distibutor Cap already LeaKing??

Yesterday had single cylinder misfire on idle... sounds too familiar. Took distr cap off, and viewed it in sunlight: this japanese cap [NON bosch!] had crakcs, and only 15k miles on it!... at least I think I saw those micro cracks all over. Thus I cleaned the cap, taped electrodes and sprayed lacquer as seen in the pic. Now engines purrs again flawlessly. Hmm. Maybe my VG electron bucket is too full to keep 'em capped?

btw forum VE owners; no wisecrackers of my cap ---> ign recondition in VGE is only under 50$, whereas VE coilpacks cost 6 X 100$...

All the complaints of cracked coilpacks, where do they come from? Are u lucky or are those needing new ones, unlucky?

Do you have some special arrangement for them...? I would figure that they have a cooling problem (from the multiple complaints). Or maybe ? some production series are bad (as I suspect in the Cap production). Typically caps last 5 or more years...

Or maybe its just my VG impression that coilpacks are generally bad...

They go bad. 4-5 gens units also go bad. I've read/seen them go bad. Mine however have not gone bad. I also have an extra 6 coil packs that are good.

i always check the caps before i buy them. i've had a few that had cracks right out of the box (****ing borg warner). i think those were made in italy or something. either way, be sure to check them before you buy so that you don't have to go through the headaches.

News to me... I ordered this japanese cap from US. It says "made in japan", but then, what does that actually indicate...

Question; Have those cracked u found out, been:
- for 6cyl
- maxima
- black plastics?

Question II ---> where to get better ones?????????????

I am curious 'cause this is the first car with such cap problems; as I got the car 2yrs ago, cap was totally coming apart, then only 15k...
Borg warner is italian? No? I would think that comes from the bmw country...

the borg warner cap that i bought said made in italy, if i remember correctly. i've always had trouble with borg warner products (cough maxima's trannies cough).

the ones i bought were the black plastic type. probably the best would be oem nissan caps but i'm not sure. i know they would probably be pretty expensive though.
