clutch

my clutch is about to go out on my 90 se and I need to know some good clutch brands. I need something stronger than stock but also not too expensive. I'm spending about $225 in labor so I figured I could spend about the same amount on parts. I don't know much about this so any help would be much appreciated.

Whatever you do make sure that you DO NOT buy Remanufactured parts, they do not hold up. On the other hand I think that someone mentioned a sale at NOPI on a bunch of stuff and they had Centerforce Clutch kits on sale. Other that that.....there is LUK, ACT (I think it is), etc. But a lot of people just go OEM though.

have an exedy...had it for about 3 years now. Works good for regualar driving, imo. Make sure you replace the throwout bearing with a good unit. Hopefully someone chimes in with a name.

Sachs is decent for a slight upgrade from OEM. Check with internetautomar... he sells a bunch of different parts.

I have an ACT, but it is quite a bit stiffer than stock. If you like that kind of feel, get it. It grabs awesome, but it isn't much fun in stop and go traffic. I think MrGone was saying that his Exedy Stage 1 is not as stiff as my ACT.

If you want to upgrade with Exedy, make sure you get the Stage 1. If you buy an "Exedy" from ebay and it seems like a good deal, it is not an upgrade, but an OEM replacement. It is still Exedy, it is just not upgraded. Probably your best bet is to buy from Internetautomart, that way you will be sure to get the right part.

What ever you do.....Dont get ceterforce they do not last and if you have some power they will slip. Mine is not a month old and i drove 450 miles one weekend to break it in and it slips. I cant make a real hard full throttle run at the track with out if dragging.

I have an ACT Street and a Fidanza flywheel, and I love the combo. I do 20 miles of stop and go each way, and it doesn't bother me.

Of course I am insane....sooooooo

That is pretty insane. I get sick of mine after about three four-way stops.

I really do like my set-up (ACT and Fidanza) but I think I would take something a littl more like stock if I were to be in traffic a lot.

Maybe you just need to work those leg muscles a little more.

The only time I even notice is when it takes longer than an hour and a half to get home. Usually I do the 20 miles in 45 or so.

For that stop-n-go traffic, or if your new clutch is going into your daily driver, you should go with a full face clutch. A 4-puck or 6-puck clutch is great for launching at the strip or stoplights, but not so fun in creeping traffic or up steep hills.

And don't get the OEM replacement offered by Nissan. It's substandard to our stock clutch, and was terrible (I had one). Its a Key Value clutch, and one to stay away from.

What's funny... manufacturers do not use OEM. OEM is the bare minimum the vehicle needs to run. They always install a little better product into the vehicle during manufacture.

When I changed the clutch on my 240, I was offered the choice of OEM or Key Value at the dealership. I knew I was going to sell the car in a few months, so I grabbed the cheap one. After 6 months of serious autocrossing and some not-so-legit drifting, it was still like brand new. I will say that I would have paid more money for the OEM if I was going to keep the car for any period of time. That's why they offer two. One for the cheapies and one for the 'care about my car' guys.

Where is the best place to find a Slave Cylinder? Mine is leaking extremely bad, It can only hold fluid for about 30 min. of driving, My car has had to been towed twice now. Where is the cheapest place to find one? Kragen, Autozone, ect. I'm not sure how good "internetautomart's" prices are so if there good, I will buy from him.

"internetautomart", What % discount are your parts compared to Nissan Dealers, Because I can get all Nissan parts for "Factory + 10%" price @ the Dealer. It's just a long process/hassle to do it. It looks like your prices are pretty good so I may buy some stuff from you. I need lots of Susp Stuff, Tune Up parts, Clutch & Slave Cylinder, Rotors & Pads ect. Also, is there a website where I can find the pricing on OEM Dealer Parts? That way I dont have to bug my friend or Uncles @ the Dealership. I have way to many parts to Price. THANX

since my stuff generally isn't OE I can't really call a price comparison fairly.
on most items I take my cost, mark it up a few bucks and that's what I sell it for. Some stuff has great pricing , some doesn't
I do it for the convience and ease of finding the right part in a world full of minimum wage counterpeople.

Got any sites that I can Price OEM Dealer parts? I think there was one where you have to have the part #. Is there any that you dont have to have the part #? Also, is there a site that gives you part #'s?

I have a spec stage 1 clutch and I absolutely love it. The peddle feels really good. It has the same stiffness as the stock one but it grabs ALOT better. I have almost every bolt-on and I beat on the clutch pretty hard. I've had it for about 7 months with no problems or slipping.

From what I've heard the exedy stage 1 is very similar but slightly cheaper.

This is the cheapest price I've found on spec clutches and it's also the company that I bought mine from

I had to help pay for the family move so I had to just go with a $160 stock replacement from autozone. I kinda ran outta ca$h. But whenever I kill this clutch I probably will go with the Exedy stage 1. thanks for all the help

Stock spec clutch and food on the table? Sounds like a winner to me.

NTN Bearings

I run a Exedy Stage 1 and love it. Perfect street clutch when you need a well behaved clutch and it hooks up instantly when you tell it too

So are you suggesting that the one that ships with the Exedy is not suffiecient? I am looking to replace my clutch sometime this summer. Since I want to make this a one-time-good-deal, I want to ensure that I have everything in place so that I won't have to tear the tranny away again.
