black or white?
I realize this ones probably been beat down before...and i realize its my decision.... but I just can't decide. I want to repaint my car. Mainly because i just got the stillen kit, and theres a few door dings and dents so i figured I might as well paint the whole thing. The question is, do i repaint it stock white, or do i paint it black. Black has always been my first choice....but if i go with black, should i go with stock black maxima paint...or something else. Anyone know of a really nice looking black? Not really too hot on the flat black look tho. any input or opinions would be appreciated.

I would say white because it will be cheaper for you... if you do a black paint job then you have to get the inside of the doors painted, and under the hood and trunk and the white still looks really nice. I would get a white paint job and save some money for something that actually makes your car faster.

I think both have their pros and cons.
Black = swirl marks... White = those little red/rust speckles that don't seem to come out too well. and one would think that black dirt would show up more on a white car then black dirt on a black car.....or am i way off here? but then again, ive owned 3 white cars and no black cars.....only dark green.

so black vs white with stillen kits........your choice, but id go with stock black..it truely is sweet, but white is a close second place.....white would be the easiest and save you alot of money, i mean do you know how expensive a paint job will be?

do you guys think the engine bay should be done as well? I mean how awkward would it look to have a black car with a white engine bay? and is there a logical way to do that without pulling the engine?

Hmm.... the engine bay would be an odd thing to paint, because like you know there is ALOT of stuff in the way... i would say that your chances of painting the engine bay black are pretty small.

dont leave out anything that can be seen unpainted, that makes your cars value go down hill. this guy may cut you a deal, but thats a lot of work and still gonna be alot of money. i mean a maaco job(worst ever) is gonna be like close to 1500 to get the whole thing black

My first choice would be Aztec Red, but I am biased
Actually, I am going to have to go with mtnbikeair on this one -- just stay with white. If you want to do something a little different, add some blue pearl to it. White with tinted windows and chrome or black rims looks hot. Plus, it would cost a lot more to have under the hood and inside the doors painted, too. If you leave them, it looks ghetto, like an Earl Scheib paint job or something.

Yeah bassicaly if you go black do it right and it will look decent.I do also like the white maxes.. If mine was white instead of black I would keep it white.
You could also do something else to the white, put a pearl in it or something so it is not just "white" I am putting a cobalt blue candy overtop of my black once I finnaly get all the work done.
BJ white

I thought about repainting my stock black to white when I first got it. But the hassle of prepping and painting door jambs, engine bay, and everything else was too much for me. Besides... Black is beautiful. Keep it.

With the prices 3rd generations are going for you could seriously buy a whole maxima, a black one if you wanted, for around the same price as a black paint job on your white car, providing you got a some what decent paint job.

Yeah, i am honestly starting to sway away from the black idea myself after reading what all of you have said. i would love to have black, but I think there is just too many what if's....and finding a black maxima would probably be the easier route, but i highly doubt ill find one with less then 50k on it at any rate i think i may just go with white and set it off with the carbon fiber hood. Does Fiber images still sell them....and for how much?

painting under the hood, trunk and door jambs is a pain and adds a lot to the cost of the paint job. It can be done though...
I woke up one saturday and started taking stuff off the fender wells and such and painted my engine bay in a matter of a couple of hours.
One pic here
and of course you can check out pics where I had it taped, and masked off here:
click for more engine bay paint.

and awsm66, ive learked around your site for a while now tryin to see exactly what you did with the engine bay. Just seems like there would be sooo much to remove out of the way to make it look halfway decent....and i guess my main concern is...if i go black...what happens the first time someone scrapes their door across mine....am i going to have the white from underneath showing through?

Ok after much thought...... I still say black! That is, if and I mean IF spending the $$$ to get it one right is not a big consern. If cash is short, do the prepwork yourself and get the stock white resprayed, not as cool but but bang for the buck.

I'd say black looks way cool, but depends on the climate where you live. I live in CA, and drove a black Maxima for a day (rental) and ended up buying a white one, after frying everytime I came back to the black one in a parking lot. I've got a friend with black SE and leather seats, and you can't sit in it after it's out in the sun for while.
Still I hated getting white, even tho it's more practical.
