speedo works up intill 22mph

hey trying to figure out whats up with my speedo it will work up intill like 22mph and then quit. then slow back down and it will work at 22mph or lower.
If they go out I thought they went out all together.

If you have an Automatic there should be a speed sensor going into your tranny check the connection going to it. I had the same problem before and the connector was the problem. If no auto or you have ABS it gets a bit more complicated, because you have wheel speed sensors also I believe.

ABS does have wheel sensors, but they are just to tell if the wheels are locked up or still rolling and not used at all by the speedo

could be your speed sensor or could be just that gauge

I know on BMW's and Porsches they have something to do with the speedo; because when the cars come in with speedo not working intermittenly it's usually one of the abs wheel speed sensors or instrument cluster. So I thought it would be the same on Maxima's. I never owned a max with ABS; but my Max without ABS did the same thing and it was the connector to the speed sensor

Is it possible you have a problem with a space-time continuum warp and you really are just going 22 mph but it just seems faster??

So do you suggest he check his flux-capacitor??

that would be my guess if your sped sensor is working properly.

Flux-capacitors are so hard to find now a days though

i would bet the wires from the speed sensor melted on your downpipe. that'd be the first thing i'd look at.

i'd probably try out another speed sensor and see if that helps. if you don't already have one i'm sure you can pick one up cheap at the salvage yard you've been going to. if/when you get one be sure to check the wires right next to the sensor itself. i've have one before that had one broken wire right on the sensor and you couldn't see it too well but caused some issues.
