Best Place for Maxima Used or Rebuilt Engines

I've decided to keep my 1994 Maxima (SOHC) rather than buy new. The auto transmission is having trouble shifting into the higher gears, particularly on a slight slope. The car has a 192K, and although the engine still runs fine, no oil burning, I figured I may save some money if I do engine and trans at the same time.

Where is the best place to purchase used or rebuilt engine and trans. Which is best, a relatively low mileage engine or rebuilt?

Thanks

I am not sure about the VG, but on the VE, you can replace the tranny without removing the engine.

If you don't have to take out the engine to get to the tranny, why bother replacing the engine if it isn't having any problems?

Yeah, you can drop the tranny easily without taking out the engine, the only problem i had was getting the tranny back on. I can get a sohc engine with 100 K for 150, but shipping is like 200 or so.

dont bother with the engine, it will outlast your next auto tranny, assuming you do regular mantence, if you REALLY want longevity do a 5 speed swa;p like me and several others

Hmm. No good sources for 'new' jap engines? Preferably direct order place from japan; might become handy one day... (or ? buy whole crash car.)

Tranny is electronically controlled: most likely that control wobbles if oil level is ok... see:
