When I push the "down/open" button in order to slide the sunroof back, it will only drop down about an inch or so below the edge of car top and get stuck. From that point, when I push the "up/close" button once, it will seal the sunroof, twice it will open about 4 inches upward.

Any Ideas?

This just happened to me...Least fun fix ever!

Ok first off, I had the exact same problem. You're really in for some fun times with the good ol roof =) Youre problem is that one of the small pegs, which is attatched to the track cable and then hooks into a hole that drags the glass back and forth, broke. I actually found mine in the depths of a maximas interior (you dont wanna know what else I found) and was able to use a devcon 2 ton adhesive, and let it bond overnight. I tried replacing the entire part, but you have to remove the ENTIRE track (after the glass and all the other components are removed). I got everything out and just stared at a lot of pins and rubber washers...and decided to try some glue. This was after wasting an hour at the junkyard and $40. Oh yea, if you DO want to try to attempt to fix it, which is possible, but labor intensive, I'll cut you a deal and sell you the exact part (cable and all) for like $30 or something less than I paid. If you cant find the small pin, then you're gonna have to replace the whole part for it to ever work. If i had a camera or a diagram id show pictures...but I dont. If you need more help, email me.

Aww Hell...

Sounds like fun already!

I'll give it a shot using the info you posted, but If I have any problems I'll come back to you...

Are there any other possible reasons for this?

Other possiblities yes, liklihood of any, none.

Chances are about 99.9% this is it. All you have to do is look on the top of the metal track (might require some awkward neck angles, or exterior view with roof tilted up) for a little black piece on one side and not the other. It has a peg on it sticking straight up (about a cm or 2 tall). You'll see one on one side and none on the other. the one with out this is whats broke, if you happen to identify both of them, well then you're in the 0.1% range =)

Hahaha, ok man.... I'll keep this all in mind...

For now, I have to find out why my Max is backfiring.

-Tune-Up
-Timing Chain
-Bad Cylinder

Im on the hunt to find out. Once that's clear, Im gonna work on the road gear (suspension, brakes, exhaust). Then I'm off to building sound....and finally, Body & Rims!

I've got plans to mod my friend~!
