THat price is kinda high. Is UT a salt state? If so then look behind the back seat for rust. Mecannically the only issue I ever had was tranny. Then again these autos suck and that's a manual. The only issue off the head is the exhaust studs. Other than that you should get a new timing belt put in. The VG would be good for a turbo add-on.

don't bother...unless you're ready to dump some $ into it.

For reference I just bought my '90 SE 5 speed with 130,000 miles for $1500, and it's in pretty good condition considering the year. IMO $2500 is a bit high for a 91.

mileage is kinda high for $2500, and it's a VG. go for a VE 5-spd(92-94). you'll thank yourself later.

what type of engine swap u plan on doing anyway?

I agree that $2500 is too high. I helped my roomate buy a 1992 GXE 101,000 miles for about $2200, last month. Perfect condition too.

it would be much better if you went for the VE30DE 3rd gen IMO. cooler to turbo, VTC's, cooler car overall then the GXE

remind you? i did?

yep, i wish i searched around somewhere and found a VE 5-spd. i regret it now, because i had the oppurtunity, but had no idea what a greater car it was then the VG. but the downfall with the VE is that the VTC's(variable timing control) go bad, and need to be rebuilt eventually.

btw, great choice for a track car. what set up you goin for? drag? road course? autox?

one question...sorry to kind of hijack your thread mass but I dont feel like waiting to be authenticated. I recently found a 1990 se 5spd priced at $3200 with only 118K miles driven on it and a rebuilt engine thats about 30k miles old. After driving this car I'm in love with it but I'm not sure how long it will last. There are several blemishes on it that makes me question the driving habits of the current owner such as: several random pebble sized dings in the body and two cracks in the dash. the upside to this car has a clean original silver paint job(aside from the dings), a custom muffle/exhaust setup, CAI, NOS, and a few cosmetic mods. The nos scares me because its 75shot nos on a non-reinforced engine. I'm wondering if the nos caused the need for a rebuilt engine? After hearing this I asked the owner to take me for a drive so I could observe his driving habits, he didn't seem forced and drove at a smooth pace until we hit a deserted road and he used the nos(he claims that hes only used it 3 or 4 times and told me he would drop the price to $3000 if he removed the nos). Overall I think this car is decent but would like a second opinion on the life expectancy of this car and should I attempt to talk the price down? Anyone with help is greatly appreciated.

No problem...this is just my general knowledge....but if the engine has been rebuilt and he has nos....he has raced the **** out of it....that tranny has been abused....I wouldn't buy it....

yea thanks I had my suspicions about it. If you've ever been down state in draper you would see it. Guess I gotta keep looking for that one max. Its so hard to find a decent 90-94 I've been looking for almost 6 months. thanks for your input.

Well, I don't know much at all about cars, but I can tell you that back in April of 2003, I paid $2700 for my 1991 Nissan Maxima SE with an A/T (keep in mind that maybe not for all, but for most cars the automatic trannys are MORE expensive then 5-spd). At the time it had 104,000m and the exterior and interior were MINT. The guy was originally asking $3200 but my boyfriend managed to talk him down a bit. It also included a Kenwood radio with amp (obviously not original)....so just in comparison to that, I think that the price for what you described is a bit ridiculous...(especially if there is something wrong with the engine - if thats the reason why your going to swap it).

Yea I live in sandy. Its down on 114 south and state, you cant miss it on the right side of the road. I completely spaced on this part you mentioned an abused clutch but i forgot he had a new one installed about 2 years ago(again he probabbly butchered the clutch while racing the hell outta it) but with a rebuilt engine and a new clutch would it be worth it as a long term project?

I think if you really want to get a ballpark figure on what you should expect to pay on any particular car... try going to www.kbb.com or www.edmunds.com

kbb.com is the blue book site in which you can find estimated book value and then edmunds is also a good site, but tends to have slightly higher pricing then kbb.

Just thought that might help!
