my friend is leaving for japan this summer and he said he can get me a set of skyline headlight and taillights, how difficult would it be to fit the headlight and taillights to the maxima? im thinking either r33 or r34s.

don't waste your time unless you've got $3000+ to blow. the bodywork required to fit it will cost close to $1000 per light, PLUS you gotta pay for the lights themselves, which are gonna be well over $1000 I'm sure.

I would say your best bet it to get either R32 or R33 tail lights. They are square shaped(unlike the R34's independant circles) and would fit easier. I have a lot of trouble seeing the headlights working from any gen Skyline though. If you really want them, email me, and I'll get you a quote on new and/or used parts..

thanks. i can get the parts for 81$ for each part + shipping. i want to do the body work myself, i have shop all next year, so i'll have myself and everybody else who knows how to work. i'm just curious how much work it will take, what it entails, etc.

Regulations

Make sure you check out if there are any regulations for your State with regards to changing lights.

tell that to all the civic boys with supra/skyline conversions running around, you think they care if they breaking any laws. i never heard of light conversions breaking any laws unless it has the wrong color, glaring lights, etc but in general, i seriously doubt a officer will pull you over and ticket you for your conversion unless he just pulling you over to tell you how nice they look. and most cops wouldn't know if that if factory or swapped unless they knew about/into cars.

Hey,
I almost wouldnd't bother with the head lights at all. The R-32 lights are at an angle which would make them extremely hard to fit on our Maximas unless you did MAJOR work to the hood and/or front end. The R-33 headlights are a one piece unit also at an angle that would make them difficult to install. Your best bet would be to do a tail light conversion. The R-32 tails would, in all likelihood, be the easiest to fit to our cars. I have heard that they would fit with a few modifications. But as long as you have plenty of cash and a competent welder, anything is possible. Good luck!

I know how R33 tail lights can fit on the 3rd gens. But for headlights (I suggest R33 or R32.. preferably R33) you might as well buy the bumper & grill. Why not do the entire front end conversion? You are going to have to modify your hood, fender and front bumper anyway. Plus the R33 front end has room to fit a nice size FMIC.. hehehe

The Police here do some serious crackdowns on what they consider boy-racers. Anything non-standard and has no certification gets an instant pink sticker which means you can't drive the car. Fitting a "non factory" exhaust can land you a $150 instant fine.

Those are R-33 headlights on Skymax's little pic there. As for pics of tails and headlights, try this link
http://www.bomexaero.com/homej.html
It is for Bomex, which makes aero kits for various cars. It is a Japanese site, so no english. On the side bar on the left there is a list of cars. There are sections for the R-32, 33, and the awesome R-34. There are TONS of pics and this should help you get an idea of what modifications you will need to do.

Re: You're lucky then

last i checked all GReddy exhaust systems are 50 state legal and have the certification papers. also it includes the certification sticker if you want to put it under the hood...so you're telling me they will ticket a car w/ a GReddy exhaust? since it's non factory right?

I have already started

the R33 tail end and a refitted Accord front end that looks like the front end of a Skyline. I will post when all is done. but the R33 seem like an easy fit.

I can't wait.

I am still waiting for the tails/money to come through. The front end is coming from a company in California called Sensie. They have a front end called the Series 2 and it is very close to the front of the R33. They have one for the 94-97 Accord that, with some help from my professional body artist/friend, will fit with mine. Then, we taking some wings west side skirts and, after some modification, we will fit those on. Then, comes the hard part. The A$$ of my car. The R33 tail lights look to be a good fit, but we will see once they come in. The back light panel will be filled and painted body color.

Then, after all that is finished. I am painting it black. Again, Pictures will be up once I truly begin, and this whole project could take a year+, but this is the project. I wanted mine to be something different.

And yes, I will be paying my self. Unfortunately!

New Zealand.
The problem is all the "boy racers" doing really budget and damn near dangerous things to their cars (Every seen an Escort with a V8? Great to drive until you try to stop!!). Soooo, legislators write stupid laws to "protect us". Stupid thing is, we have no emission standards so everyone bins their cats!
