After 204K the original alternator is done. Checking Advanced Auto Parts, they offer the following net of core charge:

1) House brand (Worldwide): $25. (in stock)
2) AC Delco: $114
3) Beck/Arnley: $182
4) Autolite: $57

Alts. 2-4 not in stock. Item 1 & 2 offered with lifetime replacement warranty. 3 & 4 lifetime limited warranty (I think they prorate it like a battery) Is there any reason I shouldn't get no. 1??

do you enjoy changing the alternator?

sometimes if the house brand is cheap the rebuild is cheap also. it might die after a year....but hey you have the warranty to get a new one...but you'll end up constantly changing alternators.

if 2 comes with lifetime warranty i would take it....bigger name...i assume it would be built with better quality.

penny wise...dollar foolish.

but bottom line...it's your call man.

 

Get one with a lifetime warranty.

I got one from advance auto and then had to replace it about a year later.
I was glad i had that warranty....VE alternators are over $200!!!!

 

you can get it rebuilt for about 120 dollars. my rebuilt alty has been working with no problems for almost 2 yrs now. came with a 1 yr warrenty
